CHAPTER 4 Fighting a Losing Battle

Jayden’s eyes sunk as he expected a call or even a text from Laura but received either of them. Laura was an open minded person, when she’s upset, she would bluntly speak her mind out immediately.

The fact that she didn’t call him or give him a text after a couple of minutes started to worry him off. He put his phone down and started the engine of his car then drove off from the lay by to his destination.

B&B Constructions Ltd was celebrating their anniversary and invited a number of businessmen and other corporates to the event. Jayden was among the people that were invited to the event and it was there where he met Mr Silavwe, his client and managed to discuss some business with him. Jayden was so good with his work and Mr Silavwe was happy that he accepted the offer of being part of the construction team that was going to build a shopping complex in kitwe.

During the whole event, Jayden kept his eyes on the phone expecting a call or text from Laura. The guilt he felt in his heart worsened even more. He began to blame her for not living in the same city as him otherwise nothing like this would have ever happened.

He loved Laura when they first started dating but the distance between them changed everything. He couldn’t bring himself to breaking up with her whenever he had the chance to instead he chose to be selfish with her. He liked how submissive she was and took her for granted.

He’s phone suddenly rang, however, it was not Laura but Natasha.

Jayden felt a little disappointed seeing it wasn’t the person he expected a call from the whole entire day but still answered the phone.

“Hey baby! I missed you and just called to check up on you. It’s almost 6 PM and I’m already dressed up in the little sexy red dress you like. Please hurry!”

“ Alright, I am on my way.” Jayden snickered and hung up. He was no longer in a mood to go for a dinner date but he made a promise and it was in his best interest to fulfill it.

“Maybe going out with Natasha will put me back in a good mood.” He encouraged himself. He finally said his farewells to Mr Silavwe and others at the event and immediately took his leave to pick up Natasha from home.

Jayden reached his home and got out of his car, the heels of his expensive brown Italian leather shoes walking to the door of his house and heading to his bedroom.

“You’re thirty minutes late.” Natasha greeted him. She stood up from the bed and walked majestically heading towards him. She put her arms around his neck and leaned for a kiss. “ I almost went to hang out with the girls, you know?” She murmured against his lips.

“ oh! Really?! I doubt that.” Jayden chuckled as he tugged her and deepened the kiss. “ I am here now, we can go to that favorite restaurant you like.”

The woman in Front of him was dashing and beautiful. She tied her black nappy curly hair into a sleek bun leaving her slender chocolate- caramel shoulders to show off. She wore Jayden’s favorite red dress that he bought for her. It was 2 inches above her knees and it hugged her body perfectly. Her body and face was surely a sight for sore eyes. A pair of silver stilettos which fitted her feet perfectly beautifully matched with the expensive diamond necklace and stud earrings he bought for her three days ago.

Jayden spoiled Natasha without any regrets and did close to nothing for Laura.

When they reached the restaurant. Jayden opened the car door for his woman and went into the exclusive restaurant. They waited for the waiter to attend to them and placed their order of food.

Natasha noticed the change in Jayden’s facial expressions as he started becoming gloomy after a couple of minutes of them being silent.

“What is wrong? Are you thinking of Laura?” She sneered. She was right about him thinking about Laura but he denied that fact.

When the food was placed in front of them, the atmosphere around them worsened. They ate their food in silent just like every other single day Jayden and Laura had a fight. Natasha began to think she was fighting a loosing battle.

“ Please eat up quickly, i have a busy day tomorrow and I need to make sure I have enough sleep.” He ordered her as he was about to eat the last spoon of his food.He took out his phone and thought of writing another text to Laura but he didn’t have anything in mind so he just stared at his phone blankly not until Natasha brought him back in reality when she finished her food and was ready to go back home. Her night also ruined by the thoughts of Laura.
