Chapter 89

Farren's Point of View

Rafael waited for me to get dressed. Had turned his back on me as I slinked into my own clothes. Just a long pale blue dress with a large white ribbon in my hair. Barefoot, because the heeled boots from earlier had eaten up my feet.

"You can turn back around now," I told Raf. Tightened the drawstrings on the middle of the dress so that my waist was accentuated.

With a light groan and ruffling bed sheets, he turned. Took me in with a broad sweep of his eyes. A smile broke his face in half. Lit up his eyes. "There is the girl I know." He mused. I rolled my eyes at him. Walked to the door. But before I could open it, Rafael spoke again.

"Have I ever told you I wasn't always an only child?"

The confession came out of thin air. Gave me a pause in front of the door. I had never heard such vulnerability in someone's voice before. Some pain twinged in with the rest of the words. Swallowing down my urge to head for the hills, I turned back around. Faced him with a smil
