He grits his teeth and reverses out of his driveway. But it is too late, Priscilla must have heard the sound of the car pulling in and turns in the direction of the car.

I hold my breath and watch as her confusion clouds her features. Even if she cannot see us in the car, I am still unable to breathe until she is a tiny spec in the distance.

“She could not see us.” I murmur to myself and to him.

He doesn’t respond for a while and then he speaks.

“I’m sorry, she shouldn't be here, I don’t know..”

“Don't.. don’t apologise for her. You did nothing wrong.”

I look away from him, the rest of my sentence stuck in my throat, the part that said the truth.

“Should I head to your place?”

Lacking energy, I nod and sink deeper into my seat. Happiness had seeped put of me at this point. I felt drained. Cupping my head in the palm of my hand, I close my eyes.
