I walked towards the car, sliding into the seat and exhaling deeply.

Glancing at the back seat, I checked on Kris before turning my attention to George.

"Let's go," I said, mustering a smile.

George studied me intently as if trying to decipher my true emotions.

"Are you okay?" he asked, concern lacing his voice.

I smiled again, attempting to assure him that everything was fine, but deep down, I knew my smile was forced, masking the turmoil within.
