Alex got back to his office on autopilot, barely registering his surroundings. It felt like his head was stuffed with cotton wool and his shoes were ten-ton weights.

Files on the table, body into desk chair. Alex was stared blankly at his computer monitor until there was a soft knock on the door and Ash his ex mate poked his head in.

“My files?” he asked, smiling at Alex.

It was like a knife to the heart, knowing that smile was a lie. 

Knowing his mate whom Alex want to spend life with is playing with his heart beacuse of someone.

“On the table,” Alex managed to say.

Ash practically bounced over there, closing the door behind himself. He made appreciative noises as he opened the files  and hummed happily as he start reading everything.
