Lance saved me again. I am tired of counting. I burst into tears,

“I'm sorry, I'm so sorry,” I tried to reach for his shirt and try to do something even though deep down I knew there was nothing I could do, “I should have listened to you and just entered the car when you asked me to. I didn't know it was serious. I didn't know he had a gun with him.”

“Shush, shush, Hey hey” he held my hands, stopping me from touching the spot where he was shot. He dropped my hands down and reached for my cheek then he held it gently,

“You are my priority, I must protect you. If I don't, then I've failed. I am relieved knowing that I was the one hit and not you. I don't know what I would have done”

This only caused me to cry some more, why would he protect me?
