Chapter Six

Emelia’s Point of View.

Stepping out of the plane, I sighed heavily the memories and feelings that I feel were draining down on me. I can’t believe that after so many years I was finally back to the place where I had run away from those years ago.

I make my way through customs and finally reach the Uber which I had hailed for.

“Where to?” the man questions, turning to me as I sighed heavily thinking about my life right now.

“1203 Ginger Street, Marilyn land,” I say to him as I look outside the window.  The drive home is so fast that in no time the driver is pulling up in front of the mansion.

“Here,” I say handing him $100, he wants to give me change but I quickly decline.

“Keep it. It’s for you” I smile at him, and he comes out taking the bag from the boot and giving me.  I smile vividly giving him an affirmative nod...

I sigh heavily as I look at the house, I work towards the front door. Unsure if I should knock or maybe just open the door I debate within myself.

I finally open the door as I enter, welcomed by the top to bottom glass foyer with a Marble floor. I walk inside to the living room. The house has not changed except for the furniture which is now grey and white.

“Hello?  Anyone home?”  I shout as I walk around the house, where could mum be?

I head out to the back after leaving my bag in the living room and walking toward the swimming pool. I look around but she’s not there.

“Mum?”  I shout as I head back inside.

I hear heels click-clack from the staircase as I make my way here. “Mum?’  I call out to her.

“Mia?”  She shouts as I walk towards her, I find her dressed in a beige sheath dress, with nude stilettos, immediately she sees my lips curve up into a smile as tears fill her eyes.

“Mia,” She says her voice almost breaking as she rushes towards me and I walk over hugging her tight as well. I inhaled sharply her floral perfume hitting my nostrils as I close my eyes briefly. I missed her so much.

“How was your flight?  Why didn’t you tell me? I could have picked you up myself” She beamed holding my hands as I shrugged my shoulders.

“Come on mum. I can surely make my way here” I smiled at her as she shook her head with a smile. “You are my baby. Doesn’t matter what” she assures me but I know she is being fake. She prefers having Eleanor as a daughter to me.

“Where’s Eleanor?  I thought I might find her home” I say to her glancing around the house, I turn to mum and she has a worried look on her face.

“Is something wrong?”  I question her as she shakes her head quickly, she holds my hand. “Why don’t you rest up?  Then we can talk?”  She asks me as I remove my hand from her.

“Is there something you are not telling me?”  I ask her as she scoffs, I know that look.

“Nothing is wrong. Let’s get you settled in. I am sure Maria will be glad to see you” She says with a smile as I walk up the stairs leading to the bedroom.

She opens the door to my old room, I take a deep breath as I walk into the room, and my bed is made with white and gray covers, on the side with a study table.

“The room is still….”  I try to choke back my tears. Glancing around the room. My eyes run from the bed to the dressing table and mirror.

“No one has entered this room since you left,” She says to me as I sigh heavily pursing my Lips together thinking about my life here.

“Thanks, mum,” I say as tears fall from my eyes, it’s good to see that despite changing everything in this house she at least reserved my room.

“I will let you freshen up then we can chat yeah?”  She says to me as I nodded my head. She closes the door behind her after leaving as I turn to look at the room.

I decide to take a shower and when I come out I find Maria has brought my bag into my room, I open the bag and I take out some of my clothes to change into. I slip into one of my dresses and make my way downstairs.

After Dinner, a d having a chat with mum I retired to bed thinking about Ricardo, did he even think of me?  I went online to try and text him but decided against it.

The next morning being a Friday, I was hoping I could catch Eleanor before she went to work, I got up early and made my way towards her room, she was my twin hell I loved her but mom always brought a rift between us with her comparisons.

“Eleanor?”  I knocked open the door shortly, I peeked and noticed the lights were off. I turned on the lights looking around the room.

She didn’t come home last night?  This was strange?  Did she fight with Mum?  Is that why she is not home?  Is that why mum insisted that I come back? I knew it. Mum couldn’t invite me for Thanksgiving in years and be willing to buy my tickets, something was fishy.

I headed downstairs where I found Maria was preparing breakfast. “Morning Maria,” I said to her going to sit on the counter as I usually do.

“Good Morning. Will you please get down from the counter?  Your mother won’t be happy” she said to me as I rolled my eyes.

“Is Eleanor in town?  I went to her bedroom and she wasn’t there” I questioned, she stuffed my mouth with pancake.

“Why don’t you eat something than worry about your sister?’  She chimed in as I smiled, I got off the counter and wrapped my arms around her from behind,

“I missed you so much” I whispered to her as she chuckled softly leaning back.

‘Says the girl that couldn’t even call me.’  She complained as I chuckled holding on tight to her.

“I know I have been terrible’ I whispered to her as she smiled vividly.

“I missed you too., and it’s good to have some bubbly again in the house”  She rep[led to me as I nodded my head making my way out of the kitchen after grabbing a pancake from the tray.

I was about to head upstairs when I saw the door open and Eleanor walked into the house. “Hey?”  UI said to her as she walked in.

She smiled vividly at me as I stood there unsure if I should go in for a hug or not, despite being identical to her and born two hours after her, she looked more beautiful.

She had short, curled brown hair with almond eyes. Her skin was naturally tanned with a slender body, her pointy nose with Lips with a peaked cupid’s bow while I had long hair and usually tied up in a bun.

“Hey?”  She casually said to me as I smiled at her. ‘Hey?  How are you?”  I said going in for a hug as she hugged me.

“Wow, look at you, you grow thinner every single time,” She said to me as we broke off the hug. “You are just jealous that I have the body you try to achieve” I joked breaking off the hug.

“So how are things? How’s Work? How’s the company?”  I questioned her as leaned against the staircase handrail. She looked exhausted like she would drop dead any minute.

“Just came from the office, it's busy” she replied as I nodded my head.

“Okay, then let me not keep you,”  I said to her as she walked up the stairs, I sighed heavily walking up to my room as well. I needed to change into something else since I was going to be going downtown to get myself some things.

I got in black jeans, a black t-shirt, and a checked jacket. When I finished I applied some makeup to my face. I made my way out and found mum and Eleanor talking.

Immediately I got closer, Eleanor started to walk away from mum “Eleanor!”  Mum shouted after her but she just shook her head and walked away, mum scoffed rubbing her temple.

“Is everything okay?”  I questioned as I got closer to her, she shook her head letting out an exasperated sigh,

“There's something that I want to talk to you about,” She said with a straight face as I swallowed hard. <Mum was not the type to just want to talk.

“Mum what is it?”  I asked her as she held on to my hand looking into my eyes. She was getting me worried with the way she sounded worried.
