Chapter fifty

As they walked down the dusty, empty street, Susan's frustration was palpable. "Why do these people have to be so unfriendly?" she muttered, scowling at the closed doors and windows. "It's like they don't want anyone to find my mom."

Nicklaus, walking a few steps behind the witches, said nothing. His sharp senses were picking up something in the air, something that made him uneasy. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end and he gripped his claws tighter.

Michael, sensing the tension, tried to lighten the mood. "Come on, Susan. You're a powerful witch, surely you can find her on your own?"

Susan turned to glare at him. "I don't need your sarcasm, Michael. And besides, Abigail has always been one to hide her tracks. That's why we need to talk to the locals."

As they continued down the street, they heard whispers and murmurs from behind closed doors. Susan marched up to one of them and banged on the wooden surface. "Excuse me, we're looking for Abigail. Can you tell us where she is
