Chapter 34 - Alex

I glance down at my watch and then out the window as the traffic buzzes by.  

It won’t be much longer now before we reach the venue and the dreaded company event.  I have no idea what my parents are up to, but I need to be on alert the entire night.  When I least expect it, they will pounce.

A car horn blares off in the distance, catching my attention, and I shift my focus in the noise's direction, but I see nothing out of the ordinary.  I take a deep breath and pull my focus back to the cars buzzing past us. 

I still can’t believe I’m actually going to this event with David.  A faint smile dances across my face as my mind goes back to the other day at the store.  He wanted his suit to match mine. 

A warmth slowly fills my heart as my stomach flutters.  I’m not really sure if this is all real or not, but I’m going to enjoy it as long as it lasts.
