I glance beside me at Alex as he hobbles his way across the parking lot to the medical building. 

A faint smile dances along my face as I tighten my grip around both book bags slung over my shoulder. 

He takes a few more steps before he grunts and whips his head around towards me.  His eyes narrow while he shoots daggers at me.  “I told you I can manage crutches and my bag.  I’m not completely helpless, you know.”

I flash him a cheesy smile.  “I know what you said, but I want to make sure you do nothing else to hurt yourself.  You are lucky you didn’t break more bones.  You…”

He stops suddenly and, while teetering on one foot, he glares at me.  “I broke my toe and cracked a few other bones.  It freaking hurts like hell even with the pain medicine.  This stupid boot is itchy and uncomfortable, but it isn’t stopping me from getting to my classes.&nb
