IT'S ME

Ivy's mom wiped her tears and, "Well, it happened so many years ago, almost twenty-three years ago. I was in Paris and worked as a maid for a woman, Mrs Harlow. She and her husband, Mr. Harlow, were very nice people. They were very good to me.

I grew up in an orphanage, and I knew nothing about my parents. When I was eighteen Mrs. Harlow came to the orphanage as a friend of one of the workers there. The worker recommended me as a hardworking and nice person, and Mrs. Harlow took me to her home to work for her as a maid.

Mrs. Harlow didn't have a child. She couldn't conceive. I stayed with them and more than ten years passed but Mrs. Harlow still could not conceive. I think she wanted to go for surrogacy back then, but she couldn't because her eggs were not viable, so it began to affect their marriage.

They were very nice people, very good to me and Mrs Harlow treated me like her sister. I never felt as though I didn't have anyone.
