“We need to talk,” I said to Dave as he picked up the phone later that afternoon.

“I thought you’d never want to speak about anything again,” he chuckled in response. “Do you have anywhere in mind for us to meet? I’m not as busy right now, and Kate is out.”

“Meet me at The Tavern, the restaurant almost at the end of town. I’m right there, and this has to do with your father,” I added for him to know how serious it was and attend to me as fast as possible.

I could hear shuffling in the background as he asked with a serious tone, “What about my father?”

“He asked me to give something to you,” I answered cryptically, and I could hear the slight jiggle of keys to tell me that he was already on his way.

“I’ll be there in about thirty minutes or so,” he assured me, hanging up.

He arrived in twenty-three minutes, a sign that he must have passed the speed limits in some places and there was less jammed traffic.
