CHAPTER 93

CARMEN

I was more on my toes than I thought I was after receiving the text from Mariah, and I couldn’t wait for the next day when a lot of things would go down. I had gotten a plane ticket for Steve at the right time that would correlate with going to the address.

“I know I’ve asked you this two times already, but are you really okay, Carmen?” Jasper asked as we had dinner that evening.

“I’m fine, Jasper. You don’t have to worry about me. I think it’s just the stress of not having Mariah around,” I replied, toying around with my food.

“She’s going to be found. I’m sure they’re making progress,” she assured, but I could hear the worry coming off his tone as he said it.

Dinner was quiet for the most part, and I appreciated the fact that Jasper didn’t have much to talk or fight about that night.

I walked into the bedroom and had a shower before going to bed and hoping the best for the next day.
