Alessia's POV

Our eyes fused as if something had formed that I couldn't name.

Quack!

I broke away from Elijah and turned to the direction where the sound of a loud crow came from. How was there a crow at this time? I'm sure that's not the sound of an owl. As far as I know, the sound of the owl is different.

I heard the chirping of a bird that flew from a pine tree. I wonder why there is a crow. What does a crow do at midnight?

"Is that a crow?" I couldn't stop asking Elijah who was also looking at the crow flying away from the palace.

"Yes," answered Elijah, looking darkly at the distant figure of the crow.

"What's a crow doing at this time? I know they're not nocturnal," I pointed out to him because that incident was just amazing.

"Some birds do stray at night. Best to ignore it, Ales," he answered me but his expression was the opposite of what he was saying. I knew something wasn't right and I could see it in his eyes.
