Five: Companion

The only thing that kept me awake was the dirty water dizzily from the wooden ceiling. The cold was becoming unbearable and there is nothing I could do. My flimsy clothes wouldn't even get my body warm.

I shouldn’t have followed Agnes no matter what she had said.

I sat back down, my eyes lurking around the dark hallway, hoping to hear a footstep. But again, there wasn’t anything that I can do to get myself out.

Alpha Lance made his decision to keep me here and I am sure the two other Alphas will support him. Birds of the same feathers flock together.

I bit my inner lips, as I shiver. The damn place should be warm at least. “Fuck.” I cursed, pushing my fingers into my ginger hair.

I had put it up in a ponytail with the help of Agnes and now, I find it very much comfortable.

With a swift hand movement, I got the band holding the hair together and threw it across the room. It wouldn’t be of use anymore.

If only my father is around, then I wouldn’t have been in this tight situation. Or rather, if I had a wolf then everything would have been alright.

Maybe the reason why I ended up with three mates is that I don’t have a wolf. I am no student in the pack conspiracy or theories but something in me tells me that it is because of that.

It has to be.

My body froze and I shifted back when I heard a faint movement around. The dungeon is big and quiet enough for one to hear movements far away.

Although it is a big and general dungeon, most offenders are taken away to the dark room, which I had heard is a bad place to be in. Agnes had been there once when she was caught amongst the kids that stole from the pack farmhouse.

She said they were young but Alpha Lance’s father that was the Alpha then didn’t spare them a glance. He said since they could steal then they should also learn to live up to the punishments.

If to say I was in the pack then, I would have been there together with them. I later moved here with my mother and she nurtured me until I was wise enough to be safe and she left.

I hadn’t heard anything from her and as her warning went, I should never tell anyone who I am and where I came from.

And for the past seven years, I have been leaving up to it. No one except Agnes knew the truth about me. “Inez.” A calm voice yet enticing called out.

I jerked out of my thoughts, looking ahead of me. “Yes.” I answered politely.

I wasn’t sure of who was there and to get out of there, I need to be polite. “How are you keeping up here?” The voice asked.

It isn’t up to an hour that I had spent in here, yet I would have spent it out there in the kitchen with the rest of the omegas. “Fine.” I responded.

I dragged my butt to the light and I couldn’t express my emotions because I wasn’t sure if I was happy or sad. Alpha Liam kneeled in front of the dungeon cell, his face pushed away from the iron door.

His strong smell lingers around the entire place, carrying an aura that even Alpha Lance doesn’t have and it won’t go unnoticed that he is a Lycan. Lycans are allergic to iron and it doesn’t take a minute for them to burn under the touch of iron.

“I will talk to Alpha Lance to get you out of here. It isn’t your fault that you happen to be our mate.” He reasoned.

Among the three Alphas which whom I am mated, he is the only one that seemed to be calm. I can’t say much about Alpha Phineas because I hardly heard of him.

I gave him a faint smile. He didn’t wait for a response from me and he left. I watched his retreating figure disappear into the darker side of the hallway that leads to the exit door.

Once again, I am all left alone with silence being my only companion. I crawled back to the wall, hoping the heat coming from the back of the dungeon will help keep me warm.

To be honest, I would love to get out of here and the first thing I would do when I get out of this dungeon is to get my things ready and leave. Maybe it is my calling to find my father or my mother instead.

Father has a lot to answer, for the past seven years, I have been drafting those questions on my mind. The first one is why he had sent mother out of the community.

While growing up, we didn’t have anything like packs and Alphas. All I knew was that father led the community and we weren’t much. My mother worked as a maid in the daytime while at the night, she is nothing but my father’s concubine that had to bore him a child.

But the love between them couldn’t go unnoticed by all. The way he looks at her, or the way he calls her name says it all. It is just so sad that everything has to end so soon.

And all for reasons best known to father and mother. I only knew little. No conversation happened in front of me because I was labeled a child yet I was groomed to fight.

Little did I know that fate had something different in store for me. Little did I know that my ability to fight will be rendered obsolete.

Even if it wasn’t rendered obsolete, there is no way I can fight Alpha Lance’s men and expect to be in one piece. So all I can do is sit back and watch, watch what might as well be the end of our story.
