Chapter One

I keep looking outside the window, hoping that the cars will move today of all days. I had to be stuck in a traffic jam.

"F*ck it," I cursed, pulling my heels off.

"Drop me off here," I said to the taxi driver, and I started running immediately after my feet touched the ground.

You might be wondering why a girl in such gorgeous heels suddenly decides to run to my location instead of waiting for the cars to move.

Well, if I am any more late than I am right now, my boss will chop my head off.

Well, my name is Alexandria Cage. I am a single mother of two children and a she-wolf. I work as the head banquet server for DC Wedding Limited. It is run by the hellcat Maggie Robbin. The worst boss you could ever ask for, but at least the pay is good.

Today, one of her biggest clients, also a bigger hellcat than her, is getting married. Although I haven't met the woman, her demands from us showed everyone who she is because she loved to make last-minute changes and refused to come to our office to go over everything at once. Her excuse was that she was keeping her identity a secret.

And today of all days, I am running late because Elijah decided to play with the neighbor's cat, which I didn't know when it was last vaccinated. So I spent extra minutes that I did not have taking him to the clinic before I sent him to school.

My boss, Maggie, always fires any latecomers on the spot. I crossed the road, then I spotted Claire, one of the planners and a friend. She was carrying a large bag while looking at her phone.

"Claire!" I shouted.

"Lex, I was just about to call you. Maggie is practically spitting fire inside there. She is looking for you."

I cursed under my breath, "Thanks for the heads up; let me go face the big bad wolf."

I wore my shoes, then tugged the stray strands of hair back into my ponytail and entered the hall.

"Tell Charlotte to make the yellow color pop more than it does now; let her do it fast!" Maggie screamed, then turned to look out the other window before her eyes landed on me.

"Miss Cage, So nice of you to finally join us. Tell me why you are late today?" She asked me.

"I am so sorry, Miss Robbins. My son got scratched by a cat, so I took him to..."

"But your son didn't die, right?"

"No, Ma’am, they already cleared him."

"Well, my career could die if I mess anything up at this wedding. The bride is the daughter of a wealthy businessman, and her fiance is also a multi-billionaire. I would have fired you on the spot, but I still need a server for today, and you need the money, don't you?"

"Please, Ma, it won't happen again, " I begged.

"Of course, it won't happen again because you will no longer be working for me after today. The only reason why I am not firing you on the spot is that I do not have anyone to fill your position now. So you may do your last job because I know that you need the money. And before I forget Alexandria, the world is a hard place. Nobody cares about the fact that you have kids to take care of. We just want you to do your job. Those kids didn't come out of nowhere; you made them come. Now get to work."

I wanted to cry and run out in rage, but then I remembered that I needed the money, like she said. So I nodded and headed to the caterer's stand. Claire was waiting for me there with the other servers.

"What did she say?" She asked immediately if I came close.

"I am fired, and I should get this work done to get paid. Let's talk more about it later."

"Ok, maybe I will talk to her for you." She said, but I did not answer because I knew that Maggie would not change her mind.

"Thanks, but I doubt Maggie will change her mind."

"She will trust me, "Claire replied.

I turned to the servers and said, "Now listen up; I have delegated the jobs. Josh and Mia would be in the center of the hall."

I went through the list in a few minutes. Soon everyone was manning their posts, and I was making sure that everything was organized in the kitchen for us, the servers because the wedding was already starting.

After that, I decided to rest a bit before it was time to serve. I couldn't help replaying the events of the day. I just got fired; I couldn't believe it. Working for Melissa was tiring, but I needed the money for paying bills, keeping the kids in school, and the rest. I guess I have to find another job to replace my morning job. I needed both of my jobs to survive. In the morning, I work as a server for Melissa, and in the night, I work as a waitress at a famous bar named Rock and Roll.

My phone started to ring, and it was Maggie. I huffed, then picked up.

"Get different designs of the most beautiful glasses and head to the bride's room. Miss Cecelia is throwing a tantrum about the ugly cup used to serve her tea; she wants to see all our designs now!"

"What kind of designs should I avoid?" I asked her, but there was no answer.

"Hello, Hello?" I guess the crazy woman cut the call on me.

I ran to the kitchen and grabbed more than twenty cup designs that looked good in my eyes, then headed to her room.

When I was in the corridor that led to her room, I could feel butterflies in my stomach. I could smell a sweet musky scent, but I didn't know who it was from.

Some guy at the door who was dressed in a suit was barking at someone inside to move their ass so they could get this wedding over with. I didn't know who he was or who he was talking to, but that was just rude.

When I got closer, the smell got stronger, and my wolf started jumping, but I ignored it. I stopped beside the man and politely cleared my throat, but he was busy yelling and probably didn't hear me.

"Excuse me, sir, please move a bit," I said again, but he didn't move an inch and had stopped talking now. I heard the commotion and screams inside the room.

I just raised my hand to tap him when he snatched up my hand fast and held it in an iron grip. I jumped up in fright, and the cups fell off the tray.

"You are........."

He didn't finish the rest of his statement. I wasn't aware of my surroundings anymore, and I couldn't believe that this was happening to me. The devil has found me; it couldn't be. The moon goddess wouldn't be so cruel. I shrieked, then snatched my hand back immediately.

"Lex, Is this you? You are alive." He asked me.

I couldn't utter a single word. The next thing I know, a blonde, tall woman in a wedding dress steps out of the room and then clings to his arm immediately. Cecelia, I would recognize that hellcat anywhere.

"Baby, why are you talking to the server? Hey, clean these shards on the floor. I want everywhere to be sparkling clean for our wedding. If I see a tiny shard of that cup on the ground, then you will die," she said, then looked at me. I watched the color drain from her cheeks, and she turned murderous.

I couldn't believe it. Hayden Walker was in front of me after trying to burn me alive. I was so overcome with emotions that I slapped him twice on the cheek.

"Monster, Asshole! I screamed, then ran out of the venue.

"Lex, wait, Lex."

I heard him calling after me, but I didn't stop. I saw a taxi; I flagged it down immediately and zoomed off.

I cried so much that morning that I felt like my heart was breaking. I cried myself to sleep. By afternoon, I had cleaned up my tears for that assh*le and started drawing my plans. Now that he had found me, he could try to kill me again or do something worse. A ruthless man like him will stop at nothing to reach his ambition. I went to the bank that afternoon and withdrew all my cash from the bank to set off the next day. It wasn't much, but we could use it to eat for a few days before I found another job. After work tonight at Rock and Roll, I would let my boss know that I would not be coming in anymore, then set off the next morning with my children.

I got my 200-year-old car from the mechanic, then drove to the kid's school and got them. I fed them their lunch, then told them that we were going to take a little trip to another city, and they agreed eagerly and slept off.

In the evening, I drove to the grocery store to get pasta and a few other things because we didn't have anything at home. I was going to get some groceries after Melissa paid me, but I am not sure she would anymore after I slapped her client. I turned my phone off since morning, in case they tried to track me.

When I got to the parking lot, I felt like there was someone following me. I looked back, but the only guy I saw was on the phone. He entered the car close to mine and then drove off immediately. I double-checked to be sure, but there was still no one. I relaxed, then entered my car and drove off.

After stopping like three times to screw and unscrew on my engine, I finally got home. I hurriedly prepared the pasta, fed Elijah and Lilly, and then put them to bed.

After that, I went to the kitchen to wash a few things before going to bed when I smelled the musky scent.

I didn't need to turn back to know who it was. I screamed, then grabbed the frying pan.

"Lex, wait, no, don't hit me with the pan; put it down," he said, then pulled his hand up.

I still did anyway. I rushed him and landed the pan on his head.

"Get out now; please leave us alone," I screamed.

He looked angry and confused. "Look, I just want to talk to Lex; believe me, please."

I smiled as if I believed him, then grabbed the wolfsbane from the cupboard and poured it on him. I snatched a broom beside the door and started hitting him with it, not giving him time to recover. The broom landed on his mouth, and then his face changed.

His eyes changed to golden, and then he charged at me.
