Ashina's Quest: Chapter 5
Today is the day before my seventeenth birthday. I'm really not looking forward to tomorrow. Mom wants to make a big deal of it though, so I will oblige. Plus, I really do have to go along with it. It's also Nico's and Seth's seventeenth birthday. They could find their destined mates. I don't want to ruin the day for them. That's one of the drawbacks to having a twin. Your birthday is never your own. It doesn't help that it's Seth's birthday too. Nyla said, "Come on, we need to talk to dad about that Rogue pack. He has news." I hurry and get dressed in some leggings and a tank, because it's Saturday and I want to work out after breakfast.
I walk into the kitchen and grab a cup of coffee before sitting with mom, dad and Nico at the table. I start filling my plate with biscuits and sausage gravy with a couple slices of bacon. I said, "So, dad, Nyla said you have some news about the rogue pack." Dad said, "The scouts finally found them. But we can't touch them." I said, "Why?"

I wake up the next morning with a smile on my face. It's my seventeenth birthday! I'm not really that happy about it, because I know my heart is going to be broken, in some way today. I know I will find my mate today. Not who which of us will do the rejecting, but I know it will be one of us. Not really too crazy about that idea, but that's kinda the story of my life, so far. Why should today be any different? Am I bitter about it? Not really. It's just the way it is. I have no control over it, and I can't change it. All I can do is go with it. I change into my leggings and sports bra and head straight to the gym. I'm well into my workout when mom and dad walk in. Dad comes walking up to me while I'm doing some pullups with my legs in front of me. He said, "Your mother did those the first time I tried to work out with her. That's when I knew her core strength had to be harder than mine. I couldn't keep up." I laughed as I finished that one and got down from the pull up bar.

I looked around to see who said it. I don't smell anything, so I'm totally confused. King Mateo and I walk out of the yard to the front of the house, and I see it was Nico! I shifted back and said, "He's not going to able to talk coherently until morning, at least. Let's enjoy the party for tonight."
