Book 2: Ashina's Quest
So, I'm in my room with Chloe, and I'm trying to get her to tell me who my mate will be. I know she knows, but she won't spill it. I'm only twelve right now, so I'm going to have to wait a minimum of five years to find out. I'm just not that patient. Chloe is an oracle and really doesn't like talking about mates. She has been told that she will probably never have a mate, because there aren't many wolves strong enough to handle the intensity of her visions and magic. I, on the other hand, have been told, by the Moon Goddess, that I will have the first mate who will reject me, and a second chance mate who will be perfect. I only wish I knew when and who. Chloe knows, but she won't spill it.

After mom left school, I took a quick shower in the locker room, and went to my locker to get my book for my first class. I shut my locker with the feeling that something was about to happen. When I turned around, I was met with a fist to my face. It was Cam, LeAnn's volunteer bodyguard. I dropped my books and said, "You think I can't kick your ass too? Bring it." He took a swing at my face again and I caught his fist and twisted his wrist until his arm was behind his back. I jerked up on his lower arm until I heard the distinct sound of bones breaking. Dad had all of the warriors that were on patrol looking for LeAnn, while I went to the dining room, to get a snack before my shift and the pack run. Dad wanted to call it off, but I refused. I told him that I was not going to be the cause of Nico and Seth missing out on the pack run. That is a big thing in the werewolf community. It's a rite of passage. It shows solidarity within the pack. It's even more important for Nico and Seth, because they are the future Alpha and Beta of the pack. It shows the pack's loyalty to the future Alpha and Beta. Today is the day before my seventeenth birthday. I'm really not looking forward to tomorrow. Mom wants to make a big deal of it though, so I will oblige. Plus, I really do have to go along with it. It's also Nico's and Seth's seventeenth birthday. They could find their destined mates. I don't want to ruin the day for them. That's one of the drawbacks to having a twin. Mom and I are at the mall. She wants me to look hot tomorrow. I'm not particularly excited about it. Mom smiled and said, "I had a leather outfit for my seventeenth birthday too. Let's see if we can find something sexy, but classy too. I wake up the next morning with a smile on my face. It's my seventeenth birthday! I'm not really that happy about it, because I know my heart is going to be broken, in some way today. I know I will find my mate today. Not who which of us will do the rejecting, but I know it will be one of us. Not really too crazy about that idea, but that's kinda the story of my life, so far. Why should today be any different? Am I bitter about it? Not really. It's just the way it is. I have no control over it, and I can't change it. All I can do is go with it.
