Two Hundred and fourty two

CHAPTER 242

Christine tried to lift the corners of her lips, she smiled in front of Alicia to turn the previously sad atmosphere back into a relaxed and pleasant one. "At the company's internal meeting, you will meet with the board of directors, commissioners, important staff consisting of financial, managerial, marketing and other staff. The meeting is to announce that you will be the next CEO after the specific requirements given by Madam Michelle have been met. And, in fact, these people already know that I'll be the interim head while you're not in charge. Any decisions I make will always be discussed with you, and with Felix as the company's legal counsel."

"Are any of them going to protest?"

Felix chuckled. "Even if they have a lot of money, they can't buy the law. You will remain CEO, unless you get sick and write another will for the next CEO."

Alicia's eyebrows knitted together. "What if I die?"

Christine and Felix were silent. It was a very 'absurd' and terrifying question at the same time. They both exchanged glances, looking confused for the umpteenth time.

"Um, why would you think that? Death is a sensitive thing to talk about," Christine said cautiously. "You're young and healthy, we're sure you'll live a long life and be able to lead Alpha Company wisely."

Alicia looked at the two people in front of her in turn. "I am healthy, but after the death of my mother, and my parents, I think someone is after me."

"Do you feel threatened? Followed by someone? In danger? If so, I can set up physical protection, as well as legal protection for you, Miss Perth."

The girl had known that Felix would say something like that, but it seemed that neither Christine nor Felix really knew what kind of danger Alicia was in. Michelle didn't seem to have much to say.

"It's hard to explain, but I'll call if I really need help," Alicia said. She smiled reluctantly, then stirred the chocolate in her glass. "Can I have a drink? My throat feels thirsty."

"Oh, sure. This is a casual meeting, you don't need to be formal with us," Christine replied.

Christine and Felix took a sip of their drinks to pause, before resuming their serious conversation.

"Oh yes, Alicia, I want to tell you something. Your mother, Mrs. Michelle has a personal secretary, she is Anna Parker, a secretary recruited from an agency called Star Corporation. Technically, your mother and I are closer to the company. But with Anna, Madame Michelle seemed to have a close relationship outside of work. Perhaps because Anna is younger and articulate, she can easily adapt."

"Anna Parker?"

"Anna takes care of some personal matters, and it seems to be your mother's wish."

Christine looked at Felix. "She came to you once to ask about Madame Christine's total assets, didn't she? And she said it was Madame Christine's order because she prepared it for you."

Alicia frowned, she looked confused. "My mother never talked about anything about assets, in fact, I only found out about my name being written in the will because Felix called."

"Are you and Mrs. Michelle not that close? Or is Anna trying to lie to us?"

There was a brief pause, before Felix finally spoke up to mediate between them. "What if I called Anna and asked her to come here? She's Mrs. Michelle's personal secretary, she might help you too."

"That's a good idea," Christine said.

Felix took his cell phone out of his pants pocket, tapped the screen and then put the phone to his ear. From where Felix was sitting, Alicia could hear the waiting tone on the phone, which then changed to a notification that the number was inactive.

"The number can't be reached. Maybe she's busy," Felix said, and made another call.

But the result was the same, Anna Parker could not be reached by Felix.

"I'm sorry, Miss Perth, it seems that Anna Parker is not able to receive calls. Ah, but, you can keep this," Felix said. He took out a business card from his wallet and handed it to Alicia with a small smile on his lips. "This is Anna's business card. I heard that she worked at Star Corporation, then Madame Michelle recruited her as her personal secretary, their relationship is so personal that even Christine, who is quite close to Madame Michelle, can't come to her house, while Anna can."

Instantly, Alicia thought fast. She took the business card and put it in her jacket. Alicia looked at Felix, "Did you just say that Anna Parker has access to my mother's house?"

"Um, not personal access, but Mrs. Michelle invited her to the house. That's a personal thing that Madame Michelle has never done to anyone, including me, or Felix."

"Isn't that strange?"

Christine and Felix exchanged glances. All along, they felt that the relationship between Michelle and Anna was that close, so there was nothing wrong with Anna being able to know Michelle and Edward's private home.

"Anna and your mother are very close, and we see it as natural. They have a business relationship, between boss and personal secretary." Christine furrowed her brow. "Do you think there's something wrong with Anna?"

Alicia looked surprised now. It seemed like the two of them knew nothing but work, business and money. And Alicia could no longer contain herself. Alicia looked at Christine, then at Felix.

"Do you know the cause of my mother and father's death?"

"Of course. They died because of a gas explosion, as well as a fire in the house." Christine shrugged her shoulders, then looked at Felix with a look of approval. Felix nodded. Christine then looked at Alicia again. "It was an accident that caused death. And, it was also written in the will that they wanted a private burial. Only you can bury them and visit their graves. Am I right?"

But Alicia was stunned. She was really surprised that the two important people in her mother's company didn't know anything.

"You guys... don't know anything about my mother."
