Two Hundred and sixty five

CHAPTER 265

Nicholas and Noel took Amanda in their car. Glen, meanwhile, was left at the daycare center with Lim Sara. They leave Glen without explaining the details to Lim Sara, but Lim Sara understands that the situation is a real emergency.

The three of them headed to Amanda's base camp. Selena was feeling very nervous as she had to return to the murder scene. Several times Selena closed her eyes, imagining how horrible Amanda must have looked after days of being left at the basecamp unburied. Their car stopped right at Amanda's basecamp. Because of its location deep in the forest, the people around were unaware of the dead bodies inside.

"I'm not going in. Their corpses must have decomposed because it's been a few days," Selena said, she then turned her face in the other direction.

"But you-" "It's okay, Noel."

Noel's words were cut off by Nicholas. Nicholas turned around and pointed at Selena. "But just in case, we're going to handcuff you here. Do you agree?"

Selena nodded her head in agreement.

They both got out of the car. Noel put the cuffs on Selena, and they locked the car door with all the windows left open so Selena wouldn't be deprived of oxygen. From a distance, Nicholas could smell an unpleasant aroma. And it made Nicholas wrinkle his nose.

"Looks like... what Selena said was true. There is a foul-smelling scent." Nicholas took out a mask and began to put it on his face, to cover his nose from the unpleasant smell. Likewise, Noel immediately did the same. They both nodded their heads to signal that they were ready. "Maybe we should be prepared with everything inside."

The two detectives entered Amanda's base camp. And what Selena said came true. The stench of decomposing corpses wafted up to Nicholas and Noel's noses. This was a truly foul scent, as there was more than one corpse.

Nicholas couldn't help it, he ran outside to vomit. The stench was completely beyond Nicholas' limits. Noel came out and put on two additional masks to keep the stench at bay. Noel patted Nicholas on the back.

"We should call for help, Nick. There are too many bodies inside."

"Huek! You're right! Huek!"

After waiting for over an hour, Peter finally arrived with the field forensics team. Nicholas sat outside, he was massaging his head which was dizzy from smelling bad smells. While Noel photographed some of the evidence.

The forensics team took over Nicholas' duties. They examined, observed and secured the evidence that was there. More than one ambulance came to the base camp, they started removing the decomposed bodies and putting them in body bags and taking them to the hospital.

"This is terrible." Nicholas held his forehead in frustration.

Noel shrugged, he then continued to answer for Nicholas. "At least we don't have to chase Amanda anymore. She's in front of our eyes now. She... won't be able to run away again, will she?"

Those sarcastic words made Nicholas let out a short snort. He got up from the rocks he was sitting on and pointed at the ambulance there. "They've finished moving the bodies. We'd better go to the hospital. The forensics team has already examined all the evidence, right?"

Noel nodded. She looked around. "Everything's been secured. We'd better go talk to Selena. Selena knows everything, she should tell us everything she knows."

"I agree. Let's go check on Selena."

After the two detectives returned, Selena turned around. She immediately leaned her face forward and said, "Are we done? Can I see Glen, my son, now?"

Nicholas sat in his seat, while Noel sat behind the wheel. They prepared to leave following the ambulance that had left first with Peter leading them.

"You have to tell everyone if you want to see Glen. Didn't you kill them?"

Selena looked surprised. Her cuffed hands raised in the air, she explained, "I told you that I wasn't involved! I didn't kill them, Ace just asked me to wait and see everything there. I... I didn't do anything bad, Detective. Please take these cuffs off. I need to see Glen."

Nicholas sighed. "You'll be released when we find Ace."

"What? What about Glen? My son will be worried!" Selena began to rebel again, she banged her cuffed hands on the chair. "Let me go, let me go, I didn't kill them!"

Nicholas gave Noel the code and Noel understood immediately. He moved to the back, while Nicholas moved to the driving seat.

"Please let me go, Detective! I didn't do anything."

Noel held Selena's hands, she turned her face forward and said, "These handcuffs will hurt you if you move around recklessly like that. Now, you will come with us to the police station. You'll have to reveal everything you know and you'll be cleared if you're proven not to be involved in the murder case."

"And the only one who can prove your innocence is Ace. We have to find Ace if we want to get out of this case."

"But I've told you everything, Detective."

Noel tapped Selena on the shoulder. She had to prevent Selena from using female tricks to get her pity. Noel said, "You'd better keep quiet to save your energy. Your journey will be very long. It's all just beginning and you know it."

Nicholas stepped on the gas under his feet, he started the car engine and immediately turned the steering wheel in the other direction. "We're going to the police station now."

And the car driven by Nicholas immediately left Amanda's base camp. The house had already been cordoned off. A foul smell emanated from inside, making Selena who saw the house from the rearview mirror feel a little more relieved than before. There was a feeling of satisfaction, after Selena revealed the secret that she had kept to herself.

Selena bowed her head, she breathed a sigh of relief and let the policemen take her to the police station. She should be punished.
