CHAPTER 264

Nicholas and Noel found the boy squatting with his mother. The woman who had very messy hair was covering the boy's mouth with the palm of her hand. They both turned their heads in shock.

"What are you doing?"

The woman was Selena. Selena stepped back, she removed her hand from her son Glen's mouth. Selena leaned back and made Glen's cries break out there.

"Huaaaaa!"

The boy cried out in fear, while Noel ran to catch Selena. Selena rebelled, she tried to push Noel's hands away and shouted, "Let go of me! Let me go! I'm innocent!"

The scene in front of Nicholas had left him stunned. The sound of loud crying interrupted Selena's hysterical screams. They were both terrified and this could not be allowed.

Nicholas then shouted, "Enough!"

and Nicholas' voice managed to make everyone stop their voices. Nicholas looked at everyone in turn, then he cleared his throat and approached Glen. Lowering his body, Nicholas patted Glen's back gently.

"You're okay, son. Everything is fine, don't cry."

Hearing this, Glen bit his lip and got up from the floor. He ran over to his mother and Noel let go of Selena's hand so Selena could hold her frightened son. Selena hugged Glen, gently rubbing her son's back as she whispered, "It's okay. Everything's okay."

After waiting for a while, Selena was finally able to talk. They all gathered in the living room. Selena let her cell phone be played by Glen, so that the adults could talk without worrying about being heard by little Glen. Nicholas watched Selena, Selena was still looking at Glen with a guilt-filled look. But Nicholas couldn't wait any longer.

Nicholas cleared his throat and tried to distract Selena. Selena turned her head. She looked at Nicholas, then at Noel in turn.

After pulling out his police identification card, Nicholas explained. "Do you remember me and Noel? We met on another case. Maybe... at your old school. Golden High School."

But Selena didn't show a different expression. She just stared flatly with her eyes glazed over. Her hands squeezed the hem of her skirt under the table, she occasionally looked down in fear.

"I didn't expect that we would meet again in another case. Wasn't this a few years ago? Five years? Or six years? I've forgotten a bit, but as I recall... you helped Amanda to trap Alicia in the fire."

Hearing those words, Selena actually shed tears. She swallowed, as if holding a heavy burden in her chest.

"What do you know? This is all related to your old friend, isn't it? Ace Blake?"

Selena looked up, she looked at Nicholas fiercely. Then she said in a hoarse voice. "It wasn't me, Detective. I didn't do anything."

Nicholas glanced at Noel who was sitting next to him, also next to Selena. They exchanged glances, before Nicholas finally returned to extracting information from Selena.

"We're not accusing you of anything. But since you mentioned it... what exactly have you done? If you had helped Ace, you would have been arrested and imprisoned. Ace is a fugitive, everyone is looking for him. He's the most wanted killer in New York these days. And if you know any information about Ace, you'll be considered a murderer, Ace's accomplice. You don't want... your son to see you as a murderer, do you?"

Those words made Selena's crying intensify. She wiped her cheeks, but the tears in her eyes didn't seem to want to stop flowing. She finally gave up, and covered her face with the palm of her hand.

Nicholas and Noel had nothing to say but wait for Selena to feel better. While Glen is still engrossed in watching the show on the youtube channel on his mother's cellphone.

After a while, Selena finally opened her voice. "I didn't help Ace, but he forced me. I saw he had good intentions but ... I couldn't tell right from wrong. I'm... I'm so sorry."

Nicholas furrowed his brows. "What are you trying to say?"

"Ace killed Amanda."

Like a surprise he never expected, Nicholas actually got a huge and really useful piece of information.

"What did you say?" Nicholas repeated, trying to make sure what he heard was the truth. "Ace killed Amanda? But, how do you know?"

Selena swallowed again, while tears continued to stream down her cheeks. Nicholas realized that Selena was trying to say everything even though it was difficult, so Nicholas waited patiently. She waited until Selena could continue the words that were stuck on her lips.

"I... witnessed everything, Detective. Ace said that someone who has been manipulated for so long would find it difficult to distinguish between truth and error, and when Ace offered to help me get out of Amanda's orders... I felt like it was a breath of fresh air." Selena covered her face again, she wiped her face in frustration. Then she looked at Nicholas. "I didn't know that Ace was planning to kill Amanda."

A sigh was heard from Nicholas. He knew what he was facing was more difficult than Nicholas had imagined.

"So... Ace really did kill Amanda? But, what did he want from Amanda? What did Amanda have that Ace had to kill her, she should have something valuable, right?"

Selena bit her lip. She seemed to think before finally venturing to explain, "Ace took Amanda's money. I didn't know that Amanda had so much money." Selena suddenly got up from the chair, she walked towards the large cupboard in the living room, and opened it quickly. A huge pile of money fell to the floor. Making Nicholas and Noel look at the money in shock. "Ace gave me half of it. He said I should run away with this money and live a better life than the one I'm living now."

Selena crouched down. She covered her face and burst into tears again. Selena truly regretted her decision to help Ace kill another person. If only, Selena had another choice.
