The entire universe slackened the moment Russel stepped out into the dreary street. To be more precise, every speck of atom in the globe stood still. From the wind that blew through the dull brown draperies to the flicks of light that found their way into the dark room like the bright red pinpoints of a sniper to even the queer hoots of bats that bath the starless night.

They all came to a halt making every second seem like five.

Deep down in us, we knew we couldn't just run off leaving Russel behind despite his rather stern warning. Even if he died, we'd have to know it or even worse, die, too.

We were in dread, utmost apprehension precisely, and our faces had turned cloudy white.
