Chapter Four

Aden's POV

I got a glimpse of the corpse. Just like any other corpse, this one also had its head missing. Whoever was doing this was trying to make identifying the victim difficult for us.

This was the forty-ninth body found since we discovered the first one last year. All the victims were women.

I had to get away from the scene, the smell of the corpse could make me puke. It seemed the body was out here for a while. The flies hovering over the decomposed body made it difficult to keep focus.

Cassel's uncle, Tim, said something dangerous was going on in town. There was a bite mark on the victim's neck. He said he heard that the killings weren't just happening here but also in Kenvy as well.

It looked like the killer was using the forest as his discard centre.

I have eyes in Kenvy, those giving me information about my brother, or any happening in the city. And they confirmed receiving news of deaths as well. I frequently go to Kenvy city. But whenever I did, I made sure to always wear a face mask. I was hiding my identity because I didn't want my killers to find out I survived.

The Alpha of Borgn-Alpha Carl has been worried about the reports that have been going around about missing women. The dots couldn't be joined, the killings weren't pointing at anyone in particular. It wasn't a werewolf's doing.

Alpha Carl had asked Uncle Tim and his Beta—Brad to help unravel the mysterious killings going on.

My instincts tell me a vampire is involved, the marks on the neck looked like it was from fangs. But an odd type of marking. The bodies were so pale indicating a complete loss of blood.

There was going to be a big fight if a vampire is walking among us.

"Cassel don't you think we should begin searching for something else," I asked Cassel who was preparing pasta for his two lovely kids—Kit and Katy.

"Why do you say that?" Cassel asked, munching a carrot.

"This killing isn't executed by a werewolf. I know it. I feel it in my guts. It's something else and it's out there. Haven't you seen those marks on all the victim's necks" I explained

"I think it's a Vampire" I whispered in a very low tone

"I saw the bites but it could be anything, maybe the werewolf bites them before he kills them." Cassel shrugged

"Man, you know that doesn't look like a werewolf's bite," I replied disregarding what he said.

"Ok, how can you explain the headless bodies?

Cassel something is going on in town, I don't want to believe there's a vampire among us because that calls for war" I explained

"This is our territory, they can't come here to do whatever they want."

I knew Cassel had become more careful ever since he became a father. He wasn't willing to take risks like in the past. He has been in denial that there was something dangerous going on.

He was so much in love with his wife Helena. He met her five years ago. And it makes me look like a bad guy anytime Cassel looks at me like I want to end his love life.

Both Cassel and his uncle were out on patrol one night when they discovered a wounded werewolf along the road. Cassel knew it was female but he wondered what she was doing in the bushes alone and injured. They took the werewolf to a hospital.

She had shifted back into a beautiful young lady. Cassel was enchanted by her beauty. He said he felt an instant connection to her, he perceived a particular scent from her. One that made his hormones pump hard. Blah, Blah. I have heard this story a million times from him.

Well, that's the power of love, he decided to take a young lady who ran away from home and was seeking refuge as his mate. She gave birth to two beautiful kids, Kit who is four years old and Katy who is two years old.

Cassel loved his family. I understand why he wanted to be careful with his decisions. But we have to keep Borgn safe, only then can we ensure the safety of our friends and loved ones.

"Hey man, stop thinking too deeply. We are going to catch whoever is doing this. But that crap about vampires, please stop saying that" he answered back

"And Aden, do me a favour. Don't let Helena or anyone else hear the V word from you unless you have the energy to calm their anxiety down"

I gave him a nasty smile. Shortly, we heard a scream.

"Cassel, Cassel" Helena cried as she ran towards the house after coming out of the car.

I and Cassel both looked at each other wide-eyed before running out of the house to meet her.

Helena's hands were bleeding, she said someone attacked her in the woods. She injured her elbow while running but it's already halfway healed.

"Helena what did you go to find in the woods?" asked Cassel hugging her

"I went to see Mary, a girl I used to know." She answered with fear in her eyes

"She lives in the woods with her sister. The sisters were nice to me back when I used to run from home."

"I occasionally visited them after I left five years ago, but today on reaching there, I saw something awful. Her older sister's body lay in the cabin beheaded and Mary was nowhere to be found" Elena explained as she searched for more words to say.

"So how did you injure yourself," I asked

"When I almost gave up my search for Mary. She suddenly attacked me. I think she has become something different. Mary looked pale and had long fangs, not like that of werewolves. Aden, I couldn't hear her heartbeat, it was odd" Helena replied

"And she was so strong, I couldn't restrain her, so my best bet was to run"

This got me looking at Cassel, he understood from the way I looked at him that my theory could be right.

"Helena, do you think she fits the description of a vampire?" I asked

Helena's eyes darted towards me, she didn't want to acknowledge the fact that what she saw was a vampire but she replied.

"I think so"

Now we knew where to begin our search. Helena's ordeal is a confirmation that a lot is going on in Borgn.

We needed to find whoever this Mary is before she hurts someone…
