Chapter 23

"Jeez, Lindsey. I swear I come in peace," Owen raised his arms in surrender. He must've followed Adrian and me from the restaurant and then hid behind a bush. What a creeper!

"What the hell are you doing here, sneaking up on me? Are you stalking me?" I sneered. He couldn't kill me during the tournament. Did he come back here to finish the job?

"I am sorry for scaring you. That wasn't my intention. Where did you learn that killer move anyway?" Owen winked.

I didn't answer his question. Instead, I glared at him. I was angry. He was trying to make light of the situation even though his presence clearly rattled me. Why couldn't these people leave me be? "Why are you at my house?"

"I wanted to talk to you about the competition," Owen said and inched toward me. He stopped smiling. His dark brown eyes bored into mine.

I reflexively took a step back. I knew deep down I couldn't trust this guy. What if he tries to hurt me? Could I really fight him off?

"What about the competition?" I look
