"Answer me, Lindsey."

I was startled by the firmness of his voice. Was he angry at me for avoiding him? I didn't think he'd care.

"I wasn't avoiding you," I said meekly.

"Oh, you weren't. I think you are lying to me. Are you lying to me, Lindsey?" he said and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

"I just...I just thought it wouldn't be proper to be seen with you all the time. But, since I was planning on marrying your brother," I mustered the courage to tell him the truth.

"Is that so? So you are marrying Adrian, after all," Alvis said grimly. His face had a dark shadow over it, as if the news upset him.

"He took me on a date and proposed today," I said.

"And you said yes?" Alvis asked.

"I said yes."

Alvis looked away the let out a deep sigh. Alright, Lindsey. Do as you wish. You are a big girl, so you can make your own decisions. If you think Adrian is the right person for you, then so be it. I wish you a happy life with him.
