"You are pregnant," I repeated as I couldn't believe my ears.
Betty smiled brightly, radiant and glowing with happiness. The happiness that should've been mine.
I returned to my room in a state of disorientation. Sure, I was still Luna, but that title meant nothing. Adrian didn't respect me ever, and I had lost our child. To him, I was nothing.
And now that Betty was pregnant with his child? He will deem me as their enemy.
They took everything from me. The man I loved most and my best friend, together, betrayed me.
But, more importantly now, my pack and my parents. How are they doing now? I must go back and make sure nothing has happened to them.
But I had just had a miscarriage, and the succession of news made an already weak me even less energetic.
Before I could go out, I fainted.
When I was awake again , I heard someone call me.
"Miss? Are you OK? You need to eat something."
Someone spoke to me, so I looked up. I recognized her as Adrian's nanny.
"What is it?" I asked weakly.
“I found you passed out in the foyer, I called the doctor, you need to eat something, you are too weak now.”
I looked at her. She was an older woman with dark hair without a single strand of grey hair. Her eyes were shiny and red with sparks of intelligence. I knew she had been in this family for a long time and helped raise both Adrian and Alvis, so she had been taking care of me as well. I wondered if she would still care for me once she knew Betty was Adrian's mate now.
"I am not hungry, how about my pack? Have they been attacked?" I said curtly, then lay my head down on the pillow. I was in bad shape since I lost a lot of blood during the miscarriage. So I probably should be eating, but I had no appetite.
But I saw her looking at me, wanting to say something but not, with a sad expression.
It turned out I was too late because I heard the horrific news of our pack was attacked that night. Adrian had successfully annexed their pack.
How could he do this to my parents?
Because of my capricious request, my parents gave him enough support to become an Alpha.
But now, he attacked my pack, he ruined my parents' life's work.
I did not care how weak I was, I rushed to the place where Adrian was spending nights with Betty.
I passed by some of the wolves from the pack, gathering in the hallways, laughing and gossiping. How could they all act so nonchalant when my life was falling apart?
"Oh, look. Here comes the Luna! Where have you been? Were you taking a nap while your home pack was being destroyed?" One of the girls made a snide comment.
I halted to face her. "What do you know about my pack? What happened to it?" I demanded to know.
"Don't act like you have no clue about what happened! I bet you planned this all along, didn't you? You were the Alpha's daughter, and now that you've married our Alpha, you deemed your parents worthless? Wow, you two are a perfect match." The girl chuckled.
They think I was involved in this chaos, I thought bitterly. I didn't have the time to waste, so I continued down the hallways without answering the girl.
Betty was standing in the middle of the dining room. She grinned as she saw me striding down the hallway.
"What do you want this time?" she barked.
"Betty! Where is Adrian? He should spare my parents!" I cried.
Betty looked at me intently before speaking to me again. "Oh, haven't you heard?"
My chest constricted. The ominous tone in her voice told me that it wasn't good news.
"He...heard what?" I stammered.
"Your parents are dead."
I stood there quietly.
The room was so silent that I could hear my own breath. Betty didn't say anything and just smiled and kept looking as if to give me time to gather myself.
"Dead? What do you mean dead?" I finally managed to whisper.
"Adrian and his army have taken over your father's pack, so they declared your parents rogue. Your father, the Alpha, didn't want to back down easily, so he tried to fight him."
"Did Adrian kill my father?" I sobbed.
Betty shook her head and looked at me as she pitied me. "It's a shame what happened to you, Lindsey. I feel bad for you. I really do. But this was a necessary step Adrian had to take."
"How can you say that, Betty! How can you tell me it was necessary to kill my parents?"
"Your parents and you are useless now." I heard Adrian’s voice.
I turned to Adrian. Anger fueled my brain as I saw his smug face again. He was so handsome, yet so evil. I can't believe I never saw his true colors before!
"How could you, Adrian? How could you kill my parents! You already got what you wanted. You took everything. You became the Alpha. You have all the money you want because they helped you get back on your feet. How could you take advantage of their kindness this way?" I said between sobbing. I was shaking like a leaf but somehow managed to stand my ground.
"It's not that I'm not grateful to you for helping me, Lindsey. I am. You've been a valuable pawn in my strategies. If it wasn't for you, how could my brother give me this position, and I wouldn't have gained this powerful position. Everyone respects me now because of my rise to power," Adrian grinned.
Bitterness filled my mouth, and my heart throbbed in pain. "You used me. You knew my parents loved me, and you knew they couldn't refuse me when I asked them to let me marry you."
"Wow, Lindsey, smart of you to figure this all out, but too late my dear cousin." Betty said sarcastically.
I shuddered at Betty's hateful tone. She never considered me as a family, let alone a best friend. She hated me, I could feel it in my bones.
"That's enough talking. You've wasted a lot of our time already, Lindsey. It's time for you to leave," Betty hissed, then pushed me toward the door.
I pushed her as resistance, and it caused Adrian to flare in anger. He grabbed my arm, dragged me toward the door, and pushed me outside.
"BURN IN HELL, all of you!" I screamed and turned to leave.
But before I could take a step forward, I suddenly saw an arrow flying toward me.
"What..."
I didn't have the time to react as the arrow hit me in the chest and pierced through my skin and rib cage.
I howled in pain as I fell to the ground.
This was it, wasn't it? This was the end of me. I thought to myself as the pain overwhelmed my entire body.
I felt myself slowly fading away before I saw him.
A large silver-white wolf was running toward me in the distance. Who was it? I wondered as all my strengths diminished.
I closed my eyes as I drew my last breath.
Alvis POV Ever since I could discern my feelings, I knew that Lindsey was different for me, the Alpha's daughter from the Blue Moon Pack. Unfortunately, I was a bit older than her, so I never got to play with her. Lindsey never looked at me as a companion, and sometimes I felt like she was afraid of me, so I stayed out of her way. Not once did I take her as a sister. Growing up, I always thought she was cute with her raven black hair, red lips, and tiny freckles on her cheeks like pieces of sunshine. And then, when she grew up, she blossomed into someone even more exquisite. Lindsey was radiant and heartbreakingly beautiful. I was attracted to her innocence and charm. I watched her secretly, just so I could get a glimpse of her smile. So when I found out she was to be married to my brother, Adrian, I was devastated. But I knew Lindsey loved Adrian for the longest time. I watched her from a distance and saw how happy she was when she found out Adrian wanted to marry her. My hear
I groaned as I felt the sunlight hitting my eyes. I struggled to open my eyes, and when I finally did, I stared at the familiar ceiling. I sat up abruptly and looked around in confusion. I was in the house I lived before I married. What's going on? I was outside in the field, and my pack was attacked, so when did I return to my bedroom? I touched my face and body, completely amazed. I didn't think returning from what I'd been through was possible. I squinted my eyes, trying to remember what had happened. But I couldn't remember how I got home. The last thing remembered was an arrow flying at me and then piercing through my chest. And an enormous wolf running toward me. My mouth filled with bitterness as all of my bad memories came rushing back to me. Adrian and Betty betrayed me and then murdered me. That's right, I was dead, wasn't I? My hand subconsciously touched my stomach. It was flat as I was not pregnant anymore. I felt a wave of sadness as I remembered losing my baby.
Alvis, what did he want from me? I remembered him running toward me right before I died in my last life. I didn't have the time to speak to him then. He had screamed my name. He sounded angry as if seeing me die upset him greatly. But I wasn't sure if I could trust him yet. He was my enemy's brother, after all.But then again, the last time I checked, Alvis had his own separate pack, so he may not have been part of Adrian's schemes. All these questions circulated in my mind, but I knew I had to be patient. Now that I was given a chance to start over, I had more time to figure things out. Sue handed me the phone. I took a deep breath before answering as I felt butterflies in my stomach. Alvis never called me. We hardly ever talked, so I wasn't sure why he wanted to speak to me now. "Linsey?" he asked in a low and husky voice, making my heart skip a beat. "H...hi Alvis," I said. I hoped he wouldn't notice how nervous I was. "Are you okay?" he asked. Huh? Why was he asking me tha
I remembered what had happened at that party. I winced as I recalled everything I had felt that night. The humiliation I felt. It was nothing compared to the pain I felt when she betrayed me, but it still hurt me because I remember the way Betty made a mockery of me. She made me look self-obsessed and proud. Betty showed up at the party with a rogue girl accompanying her that night. Selena was a rogue as she had committed petty theft and forgery. My father, the Alpha, didn't want to imprison her since she was so young. Instead, he enslaved her. Selena didn't argue and accepted her fate, as it was better than being jailed for life. Needless to say, it wasn't the most uncommon to bring someone like that as your personal maid, so no one ever batted an eye when Betty decided to bring Selena to the party. I wouldn't have either, except... The girl was wearing the same dress as me! Don't get me wrong, I wasn't angry because a slave girl wore the same dress as me. I was angry because I
"Adrian is here to see you."I didn't speak for a moment. I could feel the anger boiling inside me slowly at the mention of his name. What did he want with me? Did he come here to make a mockery of me?Wait, no. I couldn't think that just yet.Everything he did to me happened in my past life, so now I have the chance to find out how long he'd been planning his betrayal. I had to act friendly and fool him into thinking I was on his side.Time to test out your acting skills, Lindsey, I told myself."Tell him I'll be right out," I said to Sue, then headed to my closet.I changed into the sexiest dress I could find and fixed my hair before seeing Adrian. I vowed to make him sorry for what he did to me from this point on."Lindsey!" Adrian beamed at me.The old me would've exploded from joy upon looking at him, but the new me was trying her best to control her anger. So when I gazed into his blue eyes, all I could think about was strangling him to death."Adrian. What brings you here?" I sa
Dance with Adrian? I'd only been dreaming about this for years, and now my wish was about to come true. But instead of being happy, I was afraid. I can't forget the emotionlessness in Adrian's eyes as he looked at me before I died. I couldn't let myself fall in love with Adrian again. I wouldn't let history repeat itself! Because the last time I gave my heart to this man, I lost everything. I couldn't let it happen to me again, so I had to be strong. "No, thank you," I said and offered him a polite smile. Tonight was my night. I wouldn't let myself fall for his good looks so easily this time. Adrian's eyes lit up in shock. "What do you mean?" "I mean, I don't want to dance with you, Adrian. Maybe you should dance with Betty instead?" I offered. I saw Betty's eyes turn wide in my peripheral vision. She knew how much I wanted Adrian, so hearing me say this must be a big shock to her. Adrian shook his head. "I don't understand. Are you refusing to dance with me? What's going on wit
Adrian POV This was not how I imagined things would go with Lindsey tonight. I thought it would be easy to make her fall for me since she's had a crush on me since we were little. At least, that's what Betty made me believe. But when I asked her to dance with me, she refused! I was taken aback by her aloofness, and then, to make the matter worse, my brother came out of nowhere and swooped her off her feet. What the actual fuck! "What's going on? Why are you making that face?" Betty giggled, irritating me even more. "Why are you asking me this? Did you not see what just happened?" I barked. Betty can be so oblivious sometimes. Betty pouted. "You don't have to snap at me! I was just asking. So what if she didn't want to dance with you? You will have more chances to talk to her." "I thought you said she liked me!" I hated to whine, but Lindsey hurt my ego by walking out with my brother. I couldn't let her do that to me. "She does! Just give her some time. Maybe being in that f
I felt electricity running through my veins, and my body heat rose as my lips touched his cheek. I felt a tingling sensation all over. My heart thumped against my chest. What was this strange feeling? "Are you okay?" Alvis tilted his brow as he stared at me intently. He must be wondering why I look so nervous. "F...fine," I stammered. "You don't look so fine. You look pale. Did kissing my cheek disgust you that much?" he joked. "What? No way. That's not it," I protested. I didn't want to tell him how my body reacted to his touch. It was too embarrassing. Alvis suddenly grabbed my waist and pulled me closer. He leaned down, and I shivered as his lips nearly touched my earlobe. "Are you lying to me, Lindsey?" he whispered. I stirred in his arms but didn't push him off. "I am not..." I choked on my words as the room was suddenly bright. I quickly pulled away from Alvis. "Ladies and gentlemen! I have an important announcement to make!" I turned to the man standing on a podium with
