Alvis POV
Ever since I could discern my feelings, I knew that Lindsey was different for me, the Alpha's daughter from the Blue Moon Pack. Unfortunately, I was a bit older than her, so I never got to play with her. Lindsey never looked at me as a companion, and sometimes I felt like she was afraid of me, so I stayed out of her way.
Not once did I take her as a sister.
Growing up, I always thought she was cute with her raven black hair, red lips, and tiny freckles on her cheeks like pieces of sunshine. And then, when she grew up, she blossomed into someone even more exquisite.
Lindsey was radiant and heartbreakingly beautiful.
I was attracted to her innocence and charm. I watched her secretly, just so I could get a glimpse of her smile.
So when I found out she was to be married to my brother, Adrian, I was devastated.
But I knew Lindsey loved Adrian for the longest time. I watched her from a distance and saw how happy she was when she found out Adrian wanted to marry her. My heart ached at the sight because while she pined for Adrian, it was me who longed for her.
Maybe it was for the best. Lindsey's happiness meant a lot to me, and I wanted her wishes to come true. And if her wish was to be Adrian's wife, then so be it.
Little did I know, trusting Adrian with Lindsey was the biggest mistake I would ever make.
My brother was a ruthless traitor. He never cared about Lindsey's love for him. He never saw how she sacrificed everything for him.
I was away hunting when I saw one of my men, Leonardo, running toward me.
"What is it? Why do you look so frantic?" I narrowed my eyes.
"Alpha Alvis! Something horrible is happening back home!" Leonardo panted.
My heart constricted. Was my family okay? "What is it?"
"Your brother, Alpha Adrian, has launched an attack on the Blue Moon Pack," he said.
This was not good, I thought. "Why would he do such a thing?" I snarled.
"I overheard someone say that Adrian had been planning to annex Linsey's father's pack all along. He always wanted more money and power. He wants to be more powerful than you," Leonardo said grimly.
I felt my world crumble when I realized Adrian was just using her for money and power. I knew I had to confront him about it. But, I thought Lindsey would be safe with Adrian, which was why I didn't fight harder to win her from him.
"Adrian killed Lindsey's parents, and now he wants to execute her too!" Leonardo cried.
Rage fueled inside my brain. I never thought Adrian would stoop this low.
"I am going back home," I declared. I needed to get to Lindsey before it was too late. I had to make sure she was safe.
I quickly transformed into my wolf form, so I could run faster. I felt powers running through my veins as I ran faster and faster. My heart pounded with sadness as I was worried about Lindsey.
I was angry, so furious at myself for not being there for her when she needed me the most.
It didn't take me long to find her. Her scent was permanently etched in my heart, so I could recognize it anywhere. I tracked her down as fast as I could.
But not fast enough.
I let out an angry howl as I saw the arrow flying through the air and piercing Lindsey's heart. I felt pain in my chest as if it was me who was hit.
I quickly transformed back into my human form, so I could catch her from falling. I couldn't get to her on time. Her body slammed into the ground.
"Lindsey!" I cried out.
She choked in response, blood sputtering from her mouth.
I felt gutted. As I finally held her in my arms, I could feel her fading away slowly, her face as pale as a sheet of paper.
"Stay with me, Lindsey. Don't go," I growled softly.
But she was already gone.
I felt a shadow looming over me, so I looked up.
It was Adrian, looking at me with his eyes full of hatred. His face was stone cold. "It's too late, brother. She is already gone."
"How could you do this?" I roared.
"Ever since we were little, you've gotten everything you ever wanted. Even our parents looked at you like some kind of hero. As if you are better than me, stronger, more intelligent. I always came in second," Adrian hissed.
"So what? I am older than you. I had way more responsibilities for the pack, so I made sure I bettered my skills," I barked.
"I had to work extra harder to impress our father because I didn't want you to have the Alpha position!" Adrian snarled.
I never expected him to feel that he was always inferior to me and that he grew up under my shadow.
"All you had to do was ask me. You knew I would never take the position away from you if you wanted it so badly," I said. Sadness overwhelmed me. Adrian used such despicable means to get the Alpha position, and he didn't even have to betray Lindsey like this.
"I know you've always loved her. How does it feel, brother? How does it feel to lose the one you love?" Adrian mocked me.
"Why? Why did you kill her, Adrian? Lindsey was innocent. She loved you," I growled.
"I wanted to take away the one thing you cared about the most, Alvis. I wanted to prove to you that I could make her love me and not you." Adrian grinned. "Just look at her. She died loving me until the end. How pathetic."
I let out an angry roar and transformed into my wolf again. I didn't care Adrian was my brother anymore. I wanted to punish him.
Adrian didn't waste any more time either and transformed into his wolf. He hunched his back, ready to attack me.
But I was too fast as I tackled him to the ground. Adrian fought back hard. He snapped his teeth and tried to bite me, but I immediately dodged his attack.
I used all of my weight on him, then pinned him against the ground. I had him where I wanted him, with his neck exposed.
One bite and he would be dead.
But could I do it? Could I kill my own brother?
"STOP!"
I heard a woman scream, so I looked at her through my rage.
Betty.
"Don't kill him! Don't kill the father of my baby!" Betty sobbed.
Fuck, so this is how things turned out.
Adrian betrayed Lindsey and impregnated Betty, so they were both guilty!
I turned back to my human form with Adrian still trapped under me. So I grabbed Adrian by his neck to force him to stand up.
"I am taking back my position in this pack," I roared.
Betty's face paled. "Wha...what do you mean?"
"The Blood Crown Pack always belonged to me, but I stepped down to give Adrian a chance. I am taking it back now. I am taking everything back," I hissed. I howled to summon my pack members.
Everyone gathered in the field, including Adrian's pack. But none of them dared to attack me as they could feel the powers running through my veins. I could destroy them all if I wanted to.
"You can't take the pack!" Adrian writhed, trying to get away, but I firmly grasped him.
"And I sentence you both to lifelong prison!" I announced.
"I am your brother. You can't do this to me!" Adrian whined, so I smiled bitterly.
"Oh, Adrian, you could've had all the powers and been happy with Lindsey. She loved you, you know. You stupid fool," I mocked him one last time before ordering my men to throw them in prison. I wanted to make sure Betty and Adrian never saw the daylight again.
I put my brother and the vile woman in jail, but what was the point? I had already lost Lindsey.
I went to Lindsay's tombstone and told her I had avenged her death as that was all I could do. I wished I protected her better, even though she didn't love me.
Maybe in another life, I will protect her by my side.
I groaned as I felt the sunlight hitting my eyes. I struggled to open my eyes, and when I finally did, I stared at the familiar ceiling. I sat up abruptly and looked around in confusion. I was in the house I lived before I married. What's going on? I was outside in the field, and my pack was attacked, so when did I return to my bedroom? I touched my face and body, completely amazed. I didn't think returning from what I'd been through was possible. I squinted my eyes, trying to remember what had happened. But I couldn't remember how I got home. The last thing remembered was an arrow flying at me and then piercing through my chest. And an enormous wolf running toward me. My mouth filled with bitterness as all of my bad memories came rushing back to me. Adrian and Betty betrayed me and then murdered me. That's right, I was dead, wasn't I? My hand subconsciously touched my stomach. It was flat as I was not pregnant anymore. I felt a wave of sadness as I remembered losing my baby.
Alvis, what did he want from me? I remembered him running toward me right before I died in my last life. I didn't have the time to speak to him then. He had screamed my name. He sounded angry as if seeing me die upset him greatly. But I wasn't sure if I could trust him yet. He was my enemy's brother, after all.But then again, the last time I checked, Alvis had his own separate pack, so he may not have been part of Adrian's schemes. All these questions circulated in my mind, but I knew I had to be patient. Now that I was given a chance to start over, I had more time to figure things out. Sue handed me the phone. I took a deep breath before answering as I felt butterflies in my stomach. Alvis never called me. We hardly ever talked, so I wasn't sure why he wanted to speak to me now. "Linsey?" he asked in a low and husky voice, making my heart skip a beat. "H...hi Alvis," I said. I hoped he wouldn't notice how nervous I was. "Are you okay?" he asked. Huh? Why was he asking me tha
I remembered what had happened at that party. I winced as I recalled everything I had felt that night. The humiliation I felt. It was nothing compared to the pain I felt when she betrayed me, but it still hurt me because I remember the way Betty made a mockery of me. She made me look self-obsessed and proud. Betty showed up at the party with a rogue girl accompanying her that night. Selena was a rogue as she had committed petty theft and forgery. My father, the Alpha, didn't want to imprison her since she was so young. Instead, he enslaved her. Selena didn't argue and accepted her fate, as it was better than being jailed for life. Needless to say, it wasn't the most uncommon to bring someone like that as your personal maid, so no one ever batted an eye when Betty decided to bring Selena to the party. I wouldn't have either, except... The girl was wearing the same dress as me! Don't get me wrong, I wasn't angry because a slave girl wore the same dress as me. I was angry because I
"Adrian is here to see you."I didn't speak for a moment. I could feel the anger boiling inside me slowly at the mention of his name. What did he want with me? Did he come here to make a mockery of me?Wait, no. I couldn't think that just yet.Everything he did to me happened in my past life, so now I have the chance to find out how long he'd been planning his betrayal. I had to act friendly and fool him into thinking I was on his side.Time to test out your acting skills, Lindsey, I told myself."Tell him I'll be right out," I said to Sue, then headed to my closet.I changed into the sexiest dress I could find and fixed my hair before seeing Adrian. I vowed to make him sorry for what he did to me from this point on."Lindsey!" Adrian beamed at me.The old me would've exploded from joy upon looking at him, but the new me was trying her best to control her anger. So when I gazed into his blue eyes, all I could think about was strangling him to death."Adrian. What brings you here?" I sa
Dance with Adrian? I'd only been dreaming about this for years, and now my wish was about to come true. But instead of being happy, I was afraid. I can't forget the emotionlessness in Adrian's eyes as he looked at me before I died. I couldn't let myself fall in love with Adrian again. I wouldn't let history repeat itself! Because the last time I gave my heart to this man, I lost everything. I couldn't let it happen to me again, so I had to be strong. "No, thank you," I said and offered him a polite smile. Tonight was my night. I wouldn't let myself fall for his good looks so easily this time. Adrian's eyes lit up in shock. "What do you mean?" "I mean, I don't want to dance with you, Adrian. Maybe you should dance with Betty instead?" I offered. I saw Betty's eyes turn wide in my peripheral vision. She knew how much I wanted Adrian, so hearing me say this must be a big shock to her. Adrian shook his head. "I don't understand. Are you refusing to dance with me? What's going on wit
Adrian POV This was not how I imagined things would go with Lindsey tonight. I thought it would be easy to make her fall for me since she's had a crush on me since we were little. At least, that's what Betty made me believe. But when I asked her to dance with me, she refused! I was taken aback by her aloofness, and then, to make the matter worse, my brother came out of nowhere and swooped her off her feet. What the actual fuck! "What's going on? Why are you making that face?" Betty giggled, irritating me even more. "Why are you asking me this? Did you not see what just happened?" I barked. Betty can be so oblivious sometimes. Betty pouted. "You don't have to snap at me! I was just asking. So what if she didn't want to dance with you? You will have more chances to talk to her." "I thought you said she liked me!" I hated to whine, but Lindsey hurt my ego by walking out with my brother. I couldn't let her do that to me. "She does! Just give her some time. Maybe being in that f
I felt electricity running through my veins, and my body heat rose as my lips touched his cheek. I felt a tingling sensation all over. My heart thumped against my chest. What was this strange feeling? "Are you okay?" Alvis tilted his brow as he stared at me intently. He must be wondering why I look so nervous. "F...fine," I stammered. "You don't look so fine. You look pale. Did kissing my cheek disgust you that much?" he joked. "What? No way. That's not it," I protested. I didn't want to tell him how my body reacted to his touch. It was too embarrassing. Alvis suddenly grabbed my waist and pulled me closer. He leaned down, and I shivered as his lips nearly touched my earlobe. "Are you lying to me, Lindsey?" he whispered. I stirred in his arms but didn't push him off. "I am not..." I choked on my words as the room was suddenly bright. I quickly pulled away from Alvis. "Ladies and gentlemen! I have an important announcement to make!" I turned to the man standing on a podium with
The next day, I prepared myself mentally to gather the courage to talk to Alvis. I knew he supported me, but would he agree to train me? What if he thought it was a waste of his time? I was well aware of my physique. He must look at me and think I am weak. I couldn't blame him since most people thought I was delicate and feminine. I kept to myself and avoided training with other werewolves in my pack, so this was going to be a big move for me. I took a deep breath and dialed his number. I didn't have a lot of time to waste. "Hello?" I stopped breathing for a moment as I heard his deep and husky voice on the other line. My heart started palpitating, and my ears felt like they were on fire. Dammit, Lindsey. Get it together," I scolded myself in my mind. "Who is calling? I can hear you breathing," Alvis barked. "It...it's me...Lindsey," I said timidly. "Lindsey? You are calling me? Is there something wrong?" he sounded worried. "I am fine. I was wondering if we could meet up toda
