Adrian gives me a cruel smile. “Perhaps.”

I narrow my eyes at him. “You’re such an asshole.”

“Am I?” he arches an eyebrow. “I didn’t force myself upon you - I’m pretty sure you even kissed me back.”

“Only because I’m unexplainably drawn to you! And I don’t understand why. Are you secretly a part vampire? Did you compel me or something?!”

“No,” it actually doesn’t sound like he is lying. “I didn’t compel you at all. I simply made you surrender to your own desire.”

“That’s the same as compulsion!”

“Is it?” Adrian challenges, sounding amused. “Because compelling someone is making someone do something against their will, but speaking to someone’s desires and making them act upon them? That’s just me helping you go for what you want. In my eyes, that’s rather helpful.”

I growl in my throat. “I can’t believe that I was ever in love with you. When I look at you now, I just get frustrated. You’re not half as cute as you were five years ago.”
