Chapter 2 - Recurring nightmares (2)

Present day

Jack’s PoV

“You are the evil star, you bring misery to those all around you!”, “you killed your parents.”, “you killed the Luna and Alpha who took you in”, “you’re a murderer!”

All these words whirled around my mind causing me to suddenly jump up from my bed whilst being covered in cold sweat, “ha…. Ha… ha” I breathed heavily whilst sitting up from my bed and quickly glanced at my surroundings trying to recall where I’m at. Looking around I could tell it was the room me and Emily lived in for the past few years when hiding away from the pack of wolves who slaughtered both my parents pack and the neighbouring pack who took me in, the full moon pack. The pack where Emily was from, a pack where she was the strongest female beta that ever existed until my 7th birthday where everything once again turned upside down.

I sighed and ran my hands through my hair, “not again!” I said to myself. It was those same bloodshot eyes that kept following my every move, killing those closest to me. And no matter what, I couldn’t fight back, I am too weak, and my abilities have not fully developed since I am not fully grown.

I sighed once again, not knowing how long me and Emily could hide from those men, despite the fact we tried to fight back, we could never find any clues of who these people were, it was as if they disappear as soon as they appear, as if they were never there to begin with, all traces of them just disappears from the scene.

As I tried to calm down, Sophie hesitantly worried before she began to ask through our mind link, “did you have another nightmare?”

But I wasn’t able to reply to her immediately as I was still over emotional with all those sentences said towards me, I mean it felt like all the people who died were because they were close to me and it was due to this ever since my parents died, I stopped speaking to anyone believing as long as I stayed quiet and out of people’s sight, living as quietly as possible then maybe even if I am with other people, it won’t bring harm to them as I am not easily detected by the enemy but that was all a mistake. And now that I knew no matter where I hide, they would still find me, then why bother to hide my voice? And with that it took a few years to adjust but last year, I began to speak and the first person I spoke to was Emily.

Quickly I removed all these negative thought from my mind and slightly shook my head, “yea, but I’m fine now” I replied to Sophie’s question trying not to worry her but still I knew Sophie could sense my unease since we live in the same body but nevertheless, she knew not to ask any further.

I mean this was kind of the usual routine, I have been having these recurring nightmares every so often, especially these past few weeks, these nightmares kept recurring every single night, it was like a reminder that I must find these killers and finish them off myself to avenge those who died.

As I was sinking into deep thought, Sophie quickly spoke to keep me awake, “so anyways, you should wake up, you and Emily was meant to go training right?” She asked which shook me out of my daze, “oh yes, nearly forgot” I replied through the mind link whilst thanking Sophie for the reminder.

Quickly I got up and got myself ready before heading downstairs to meet with Emily, “so you are finally awake sleepyhead?” She questioned whilst I looked at the clock, “it’s 7am, how am I a sleepy head?” I looked at her questioningly whilst she laughed it off and told me to come and eat breakfast.

As soon as we were done, we went to the forest meadow, a secret place I found when using the forest as a short cut to get to school. It was a beautiful meadow hidden deep within the forest, the meadow was the most peaceful place I have ever went it, it was a place where no evil resides, there was a beautiful waterfall, different creatures living peacefully together and no bloodshed, it was a place that seems to be unreal and I wish I could stay here for ever, but if I do that, it just means I am running away from the real world, running away from my enemies and that is not something I would want .

Ever since me and Emily discovered the meadow, we have always gone there for training and combat alongside a place to let our wolves out without being found out by others since no one comes this deep into the forest and even if they did, it would be hard to find its exact location since it is secretly hidden away. But anyways it’s time for combat …

-Few hours later-

It was now getting late; the sun was setting, and the moon was slowly rising replacing the position the sun previously was despite it only being 3pm.

But nevertheless, we went back home, I prepared the meals whilst Emily went to take a shower and some rest before going out for work at 6.

By the time I was complete, I packed everything and waved Emily goodbye before she left the house leaving everything all to my lonesome as I switched on the television and flicked through N*****x before arriving at a good movie, “the maze runner.”

After watching movie after movie, I soon came to realise the time has ran quite quickly and it was now nearly 2am. Knowing that Emily would soon arrive home, I quickly switched everything off and went to prepare some spare clothes and towels awaiting Emily to come home and take a shower, after the clothes were prepared, I headed towards the kitchen about to get some ingredients out to make a meal for Emily, I hear a loud thud come from the front door, it was the sound of something hitting the door quite harshly. Not knowing who or what the thing is outside, uncertain of whether there was any danger, I stopped all tasks at hand and itched forward towards the curtains near the front door, and since I was watching the movie in the dark, and that the screen was switched off, there was currently no lights within the building.

Knowing this, I grabbed a knife and slowly peeped my eyes through the small hole in the curtain to see who was outside whilst gripping tightly at my knife just in case something happens. Looking at the front door, there was no one there, looking around, the surroundings were empty until I looked down at the pavement where I suddenly see a familiar figure collapsing on the ground.

I gasped and immediately took away the knife and opened the front door before carrying Emily into the building before checking everything outside and then closed the door behind us.

Looking at Emily who was now laying on the carpeted floor, I see her breathing heavily, her skin looks pale, and her complexion was worse than usual, and worst of all she had a large cut wound at her abdomen which shocked me, “who did this?” I asked angrily wanting to kill the person who did this to Emily, but she was having a hard time speaking so I didn’t get an answer.

I took a deep breath and calmed myself down before closing my eyes and focusing on the wound, “heal” I internally said trying to cast my healing spell on Emily’s wound. But despite the wound has begun to close, I realised something was off. Her body wasn’t recovering but instead getting worse, I tried again, “heal” but still to no avail.

“Why is this happening?” I questioned myself not knowing why my healing powers are not working for Emily but nevertheless, the healing was enough for Emily to regain consciousness, “there’s no use” Emily said with certainty whilst my expressions looked at her with confusion. Emily smiled but soon after followed by coughing out blood, “what’s going on?” I asked worriedly trying to use my magic once again but before I could do that, Emily quickly grabbed my hands, “look at me” Emily said calmingly whilst I didn’t want to look at her, I didn’t want to face the reality that I am yet again losing another person that I care for. But Emily wouldn’t take the no and raised her other hand to caress my checks before making me face her, “you must go!” She said with her commanding beta aura, but despite such aura it had no effect on me and she knew that.

I shook my head not wanting to listen to her, I just wanted to stay by her side, but she shook her head, “I don’t have much time to live” she said with a sad smile whilst I shook in denial, “that’s not true!” I shouted not wanting this to happen once again.

And yet, Emily coughed out blood once again, she was injured too severely that not even my healing powers were able to help her recover which made my tears unconsciously fall out from my eyes, I blamed myself that this happened to Emily, I blamed myself that this happened to the Full moon pack, if it wasn’t because of my existence, my pack and the full moon pack would never have been harmed to this extent, to the point where the whole pack was nearly massacred. As my tears kept dripping down my face, Emily quickly wiped away my tears that I didn’t know was there and slowly caressed my cheeks, “my sweet Jack, none of this was your fault, don’t cry my dear.” She said caressingly before slowly handing me an envelope that was in her pocket, she gave a soft and sad smile, “I’m sorry I can’t celebrate your birthday anymore but I need to tell you that you are a precious being, the sweetest child I have ever met, and please don’t lose yourself or blame yourself because of what happened until now, none of this was your fault” Emily said soothingly as her voice was slowly losing their power, the energy within her was becoming smaller and her body was getting colder by the second, I shook my head once again in denial, “ please don’t leave!” I cried whilst Emily hugged me, “I love you Jack, no matter what, please live on” she said before her grasp around me suddenly dropped to the ground, “no!” I cried even more but no matter what I do now, I knew Emily cannot come back.

Just then I detect footsteps approaching us at a high speed, but despite knowing this, I didn’t want to move an inch away from Emily, all I wanted to do was stay by her side as I sobbed into her shirt as Sophie whimpered alongside my pain of losing Emily, “Jack.” Sophie called worriedly, “Jack we must go” she said once again saddening but I didn’t listen, “I know you are in pain, so am I. But remember what Emily said, her wish is to let us survive, we can’t make her last wish go to waste.” Sophie said once again trying to persuade me, “and remember, we must avenge our packs, we must find the true perpetrators, are you happy sulking here and not get back at those who harmed us? Those who harmed our people?” She questioned.

With those words, I nodded, regaining my composure, “yes, you are right.” I said to Sophie, knowing I cannot stand down here, there is still so much to do, there is still those I need to avenge, I cannot be caught here.

With that I slowly let go of Emily, looking at her face one last time before placing her gently on the carpeted floor, wiping away my tears, I quickly grabbed a blanket and covered her body.

Knowing I still have a long way to go, I quickly grabbed out prepared bags from underneath my bed oil before exiting the building covering the inside with oil and turning on the gas.

As I exited the house, I looked at it reminiscing the last few years with Emily before I bid my farewell and lighted up a matchstick and threw it onto the ground, the small flame ignited itself as if touches the oil that I poured onto the concrete ground, quickly, it followed the oil path until it reaches the building, and with the touch of the flame, the gas inside explodes, burning the whole thing down in mere seconds, leaving nothing behind.

As the flames ignited the whole building, I looked away, turning towards the forest, and made my way forward.

“It’s time!”
