Bas POV

The car ride back home was silent as I drove, the hum of the engine the only sound accompanying my racing thoughts. My mind kept wandering back to the fire. It couldn't have been a coincidence that on the very day we decided to retrieve the belladonna, the forest was ablaze. Someone did it, but who? My thoughts raced with possibilities. Could it have been my father? Did he want to toy with us, waiting for the perfect moment to strike?

My grip tightened on the steering wheel, knuckles turning white. No, it couldn't be my father. He wasn't one to delay punishment. If he knew about the belladonna, he would have struck immediately. Then who? Who could possibly be behind this?

As my mind churned, I felt Becca's gentle hand fall on mine, giving a small squeeze. I turned to look at her, a forced smile on my face. She was my anchor, my everything, and her touch was a reminder of what I was fighting for.
