Becca POV

“Earth to Becca,” Lola said, snapping her fingers in front of my face.

“Sorry,” I said, jolting back to reality.

“Becks, please don’t tell me you're still worked up about what happened in that house,” Lola said, her eyes filled with worry.

I looked away, unable to meet her gaze. After what happened at the house, I was certain

so certain

that it was Bas. I went back the next day and the day after, but he never showed up. Could he be avoiding me? With a frustrated sigh, I ran my hands through my hair. “Lola, I’m certain it was Bas,” I said.

Lola looked at me, her hands gently placed on my shoulders. “Becks, you barely saw anyone there. Are you sure it’s not a fragment of your imagination?”

Imagination?

I was certain it was Bas. How could she say that? Like I was some crazy person making things up.

“I know what I’m saying. I... I may not have seen him, but I felt him,” I said, my voice cracking with emotion. “I know it’s Bas,” I repeated, more determined.
