Chapter 2

BRYANT'S POV

I stared angrily as Kiara flinched in dear. She irritated me. And my father just had to come and make me feel even worse.

I pranced around the office, my mind dispersed. My wolf wanted to mark Kiara there and then but I remembered the promise I made to Anna.

Anna Morris. She is my Fiance.

A woman of Class, beautiful, intelligent, and someone who was goal driven. Kiara was nothing like her.

And I could never trade her for Kiara either, just because of some dumb stupid mate bond thing.

Never.

Urgh, I can’t take anymore of this suspense. I have to put a call through to Anna.

I called her line, both Personal, and Office, but she was picking none of them. I sighed in frustration.

Dad was already angry at the fact that I chose to reject my mate, and now Anna was not even picking up my calls.

Anna called back immediately some minutes later and I picked it up on the first ring.

“Hi, my love. I need to talk to you urgently.” I said and she sighed

"What's wrong, Bryant? I’m extremely busy as it is." Anna's voice was tense.

"I want us to get married as soon as possible," I said urgently. "Tomorrow, even."

Anna's surprised silence stretched on for a moment before she spoke again.

“Have you gone nuts, Bryant? You know I can't. Not at this point.” She said, her voice strained with tiredness.

“I know. But I want to get married to you as soon as possible. Otherwise, I feel like something Ominous might happen.” I said and she sighed

"I can't, Bryant. I have a project due in two weeks, and I can't take a break right now." She replied, her voice firm.

I felt a surge of frustration. "But we've been engaged for two years now. I'm tired of waiting."

"I know, and I'm sorry," Anna said. "But my work is important to me too."

I sighed, knowing there was no use arguing with her. "Fine, I'll wait. But I hope it won't be much longer."

“It won’t be long. I’ll be back to Northill in a week, you need not worry.” Anna said and I sighed.

“I miss you, Anna,” I said slowly and she sighed.

“And I miss you more, my love. Bear with me, at least till this project is over, hmm? I got to go, now B. I’ll call you later. I love you.” She said and ended the call.

I sighed tiredly and sat on the chair, all my enthusiasm for work draining from my system.

I didn’t even have the temerity to tell Anna that I had found my mate. We have both waited for long, and not meeting our different mates, made us decide to do away with our destined mates and marry each other.

Why the hell did the moon goddess have to make her show up, and ruin everything!?

I sighed in frustration and struggled to work.

“Sir, You have a scheduled meeting for 1 pm.” My secretary said, and I stared up at her.

“Cancel all my plans. I’m not in the mood.” I grunted. I picked up my coat and car keys and hurried down the stairs.

It's afternoon, but I need a drink.

And some advice.

“Hey Mike, what’s up? Where are you at?” I asked, so I called my best friend, Mike.

“I’m at the gym, going through some sweat.” He said.

“Great. I’ll meet you there.” I said and ended the call and drove quickly to Mike’s gym.

I alighted from the car and entered the gym, and went into the changing room, where I changed into loose clothes, wielding my boxing gloves.

“Hold up, man. You look stressed. Are you alright?” Mike asked as I punched on a particular punching bag.

“No. Everything was just fine until she showed up and scattered it.” I said, focusing hard and punching the bag.

“Who? What the hell are you mumbling, Bryant?” He asked and I paused.

“My Fated mate showed up,” I said and he dropped the water bottle he had been holding.

“Excuse me? Say that again.” He said.

“My fated mate showed up, Mike. The question I keep asking myself is why is she useless and poor, why is she showing up now when I have promised Forever and loyalty to Anna already?” I asked again and I began to punch the bag again.

I was vexed, beyond doubt. Why did the moon goddess have to provide me with a girl who had nothing to show for herself, and was just poor and stupid, when she could have just made Anna my chance mate.

“Does Anna know?” Mike asked and I shook my head.

“What am I supposed to tell her? Anna, my mate, showed up. Do you know how she’d feel?” I asked and Mike sighed and leaned on the wall.

“It's better than she hearing it from someone else. Telling her now would be the best thing to do.” Mike said, grabbing another bottle of cold water, and he passed it to me.

I was sweating already and thirsty and I sat beside Mike on the floor, sipping from the bottle of water.

“Is she beautiful?” Mike asked and I gave him a look.

“Very beautiful. But plain. She’s a lot more beautiful, and has more natural beauty than Anna.” I said and sipped from the bottle of water.

“Well, then. I don’t care about birth or status. Since you plan on rejecting her anyway, set me up with her, hmm?” He asked and I gave him a playful glare.

“Fucking playboy. You like everything that wears a skirt.” I said, jabbing him playfully in the stomach.

“I mean, since you don’t either, reject her and give her to me, that wouldn’t be a bad idea now, would it?” Mike said and I sighed.

“But wouldn’t rejecting her backfire on you? Rejecting your mate has never ended well for anybody.” Mike said and I sighed.

“Exactly what Father said too. But I don’t care what those fables are. Those men had their downfall due to one silly mistake or the other. I wouldn’t let myself fall, or get distracted. I love Anna, and it's only Anna I would love till death.” I said and finished my water.

“Sweat out a bit more. I’m gonna go order in for us both.” He said and walked out of the boxing ring.

I continued punching and boxing my mind filled with thoughts of Anna.

She had been my first love, and the only woman I had loved for seven years. We both had no mates, and we both loved each other. We had sworn never to accept our mates, and to reject them if they ever showed up.

This was not the time to be deluded by some stupid bond. It was time I proved myself loyal and faithful to the only woman who had shown me nothing but love and care.

I have to tell her the truth.

Else, I’ll be sitting on my possible blissful future with Anna.
