Chapter 32

It was dark and then I woke with fright. The walls were white and it smelled strongly of disinfectant. Where was I?

I sat up and was immediately blinded by a bright flash of light from the light bulb. I didn't notice it before.

I looked around. I was alone. The last thing I remembered was the screech of a car and then everything went black. The door flung open and a man in a white coat came in. It was a doctor. I was in a hospital. How did I get there?

"Miss Hazel, you are awake. We are glad. We were all worried for a second. You had a nasty accident, was hit by a Ford truck. Luckily you had very minor injuries and you have been out cold for a while. How do you feel?"

I sat up further and the room began to look clearer. My body throbbed and my head was aching. I looked at my elbows and there were a few scratches but there was nothing serious.

"I feel a bit weak. Other than that, I am fine."

The doctor nodded and scribbled on his book.
