Chapter 40

Lorena's POV

I was holding Kaya and I didn't even notice that she had fallen asleep on my shoulder. I gently laid her on her bed and tucked her in. She needed to rest. She had been through a lot.

As I smoothed her clothes and bed covers, she mumbled and stirred sweetly in her sleep. I couldn't help but smile. She was an angel. I still just couldn't understand why her father was so cold to her.

I left her room and closed the door lightly behind me. I was due for a good nap; I was exhausted. I walked upstairs and headed to my room. As I opened the door, I gasped in surprise. Hazel was in bed and Logan was by her side, holding her hand. She looked a bit weak and pale but that was all.

Logan looked at me and finally left. I made way for him as he walked out of the door. I closed it gently behind him and I was left alone with Hazel.

"Hazel, are you okay? What happened to you?"

I rushed and took up the spot that Logan had left and took Hazel's hand in mine.
