Chapter 44

Lorena's POV

Kaya turned the handle and the door creaked open. In that moment, my heart stopped beating, only to be jerked back to work by little Kaya tugging on my hand to urge me inside.

The study was huge. Books were neatly arranged in towering shelves. We walked slowly and in the far corner of the room, at a desk, sat a muscular man. His jacket was off and was hung on his seat as he was hard at work at the desk. His head never left the table or the documents he was looking over.

"What do you want?"

Kaya couldn't contain her excitement. She left my hand and ran towards her father. For some reason, I feared for her safety. He had yelled at her on the phone so part of me didn't expect him to be so cozy towards her now. Though he was my mate, I still had resentment for what he did to her.
