Amelia's POV Kayden's arms were wrapped tightly around me, his hands gripping my waist and back almost painfully. But the pressure reassured me that I was safely out of harm's way. As his panic gradually subsided, I became aware of strange stirrings within myself. My mind was clear again yet emotions played in my chest that did not seem my own - anger, outrage, a fierce protective urge. I glanced up at Kayden's face, taking in the silver glint of his eyes and twisted snarl. There was no mistaking the anger that was emanating from his rigid frame. When I was falling just few minutes ago from the stairs, I was scared.. terrible. Last of me didn't want to die, another part wanted to find out what was going to happen when I fall. But what I was feeling now was something different… there was anger. I wasn't angry at Ramona, I barely even knew her, what I felt was a shock surprise… why was she going to kill me, she didn't even know me yet. The anger that I was feeling, wasn't mine.
Kayden’s POVAs I walked away from the scene, my mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled deep within me since what happened last night, and now the incident with Ramona and Amelia's fall down the stairs. There was something different about the way I felt, especially when I was around Amelia. The hallway stretched out before me, dark and silent. I paused, my instincts urging me to turn back. And when I did, I saw her - curled up on the floor where I had left her, her head buried between her legs.“What the fuck is she doing?.” Muttered under my breath. My heart clenched at the sight of her vulnerable form. Despite my best efforts to resist, I felt a strange urge to go to her, to comfort her in any way I could. But I knew that was unnecessary, and it would only compromise everything I stood for as an Alpha, and as a person. I wasn't that kind, and nothing was going to change that. "What am I doing?" I muttered to myself
Amelia's POV The knock echoed through the room, my heart leaped in anticipation. Could it be him? Alpha Kayden, coming back to check on me, perhaps to offer some explanation or reassurance? I hurriedly stood up, my mind racing with the possibilities.Raising the hem of my dress slightly, I let my thighs peek out, a subconscious gesture of allure. Then, with a quick adjustment, I pulled down the neckline of my dress, amplifying the curve of my breasts. Every movement was calculated, a silent invitation for his attention.Rushing towards the door, my heart pounded with excitement. I couldn't wait to see him again, to feel his presence close to mine. My hand trembled slightly as I reached for the handle, anticipation thrumming through my veins. As the door swung open, my breath caught in my throat, but the sight that greeted me was not what I expected. Instead of Alpha Kayden's imposing figure, it was my maid standing before me, her eyes wide with surprise."Miss Amelia," she exclaimed
Amelia's POVClaire looked up and smiled, a hint of excitement in her eyes. "What about her?" she asked, her tone gentle. She was probably excited about the fact that what we were doing might be considered as bonding, since I wanted to talk about someone else with her. Gossiping was something that would excite anyone, especially when you talk about someone who you don't like. I smiled back, feeling a mix of curiosity and exhaustion. "I just want to know more about her," I admitted, my voice echoing with exhaustion. Claire nodded understandingly, setting aside the cloth she had been using to clean my neck. "Well, you shouldn't give a shit about Ramona," she said bluntly, her tone firm.I blinked in surprise at her candidness, feeling a flush of embarrassment wash over me. "I just... I want to understand," I protested weakly, feeling foolish for my curiosity.Claire sighed, her gaze softening as she met my eyes. "I understand, Miss Amelia," she said gently. "But trust me when I say
Alpha Kayden's POVRamona stood in the doorway, her presence, a disruption in the calm of my chamber. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her sudden intrusion, a sigh escaping my lips as I watched her hesitantly step inside."What do you want?" I asked, my tone firm and without any hint of warmth. I had no patience for her games, especially not now when my mind was already filled with conflicting emotions. I stood up and walked towards the window, putting both my hands in each pocket. The view seemed peaceful enough, the only thing was that I was interrupted by Ramona, someone I was trying desperately to avoid. She smiled softly, seemingly oblivious to my irritation as she approached me with careful steps. "I noticed you seemed upset," she said, her voice gentle as she reached out to touch my arm.I shrugged her off, my gaze hardening as I took a step back. "I don't need your concern," I replied curtly, my frustration bubbling beneath the surface. But she persisted, smiling as s
Amelia's POV He what?" I pressed, my curiosity showing as Claire trailed off, her eyes misting over with emotion.Claire took a deep breath, steadying herself before she spoke. "It's true that Alpha Kayden is cruel and brutal," she began, her voice trembling slightly. "But he's also the only good thing that has happened to me and my family."I blinked in surprise, slightly shocked by Claire's words. "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.Claire sighed, her gaze drifting to the floor as she gathered her thoughts. "I come from a long line and generation of slaves," she explained, her voice tinged with sorrow. "My parents served one Alpha's family for as long as they could remember, and I was born into seeing my parents serve… it was serve or die."My heart ached as I listened to Claire's story, imagining the hardships she and her family must have endured. "But how did you end up here?" I asked, feeling a surge of sympathy for Claire and her family.Claire took a
Alpha Kayden's POVRamona still stood there, vulnerable and exposed. He quickly covered his eyes with his arm, his face and his expression changing into one of discomfort. "Alpha," he said hastily, his voice strained. "Should I leave?"I frowned, my frustration boiling over as I glared at him. "Get Ramona the fuck out of my office," I snapped, my tone sharp and biting.Julius nodded, the sign of relief evident in his features as he moved towards Ramona. He swiftly picked up her dress from the floor and draped it over her, shielding her nakedness from view. With a gentle but firm hand, he guided her away from me, towards the door. She hesitated for a while as though she didn't want to go with him. It wasn't like she had a choice to go over and beyond and try to test my patience. She knew better than to do that. "You have to leave while the Alpha is still patient," he said to Ramona, his voice soothing as he tried to calm her. She was still crying, her hand bleeding, but she allowed
Amelia's POVI let out a shaky breath as I swiftly moved away from the window, my heart pounding in my chest. The last thing I needed was for Alpha Kayden to catch me spying on him. The consequences would undoubtedly be severe. As I retreated from the window, I couldn't shake the feeling of dread that lingered in the pit of my stomach. It was as though I was constantly on edge, always looking over my shoulder, afraid of what might happen next.I couldn't tell if he had felt what I felt.. or If he knew that he was my mate. Bit for the few weeks that I had spent with him, I knew undoubtedly that he was impossible to read. Even though he shared the same feeling with me, he wouldn't show it even in the slightest. With a heavy sigh, I walked towards the bed and collapsed onto it, the soft mattress enveloping me in its embrace. "I'm losing my mind," I muttered into the pillow, my voice muffled by the fabric.Feeling suffocated by my own thoughts, I sat up and ran a hand through my hai
