Chapter Four

Kayden's POV

The earth trembled as my paw hit the ground harshly. It was pouring but I didn't mind as I ran across the forest in my wolf form. I needed to release the tension already built up from going to another pack for a long time.

Not to talk of Amelia who I was feeling a weird feeling towards. It didn't feel bad but it was a weird connection that made me interested in her. Although she was only here to give me my heir, I still couldn't deny that connection.

“Alpha.” I heard my beta, Julius, voice in my head through the mind link. “The reports are here.”

I ran back to the pack house and immediately I got there, the maids pulled out my towel, handing it over to me as I walked back into my office where my beta and gamma were waiting for me already.

“How did the patrol on the borders go?” I asked as I picked a fresh shirt to wear before going to my seat.

It was just dawn and it had been raining since the previous evening when we arrived I had to find a reason to leave the room and not spend the wedding night with her without anyone in the pack house knowing.

If anyone knew about it, she would be humiliated.

“We have inspected all the borders and they seem to be targeting the borders where our reinforcements are just coming up,” Julius said, handing me the file of the report they just brought. “And the weaker members of the pack near the side of the western border are those they've been attacking.”

“We think we might have a mole.” My gamma, Ray said and I hummed gently.

The most foolish decision someone could make is to be a mole in my pack. The person isn't the wisest person to exist. “The injuries from that side of the pack are high and we need more supplies to take care of them,” Julius said as my eyes raked through the report.

“What should we do, Alpha?” They both asked. My eyes never left the report as lots of things ran through my mind. This wasn't any type of case to deal with. It already involves my pack members and they knew I would stop at nothing till I got those behind the attack.

“Strengthen the force on that side of the border and do the same for the rest of the borders too,” I ordered and they both nodded. “And do that IMMEDIATELY.”

“Yes, alpha.” They both bowed their heads before walking out of my office. I stood up and strolled through my office as I read the rest of the report before dumping it back on my table.

I sat back on the black leather chair, the weight of the day's work pressing on my shoulders. The documents and reports sprawled across my desk demanded attention, so I went through them one by one, checking on each of them and doing the necessary work.

A few hours passed, and I tried to continue working, but it only got more annoying. “Are you seriously going to dump yourself at work instead of us talking about our new wife?” My wolf, Eden said.

“What's there to talk about?” I asked him, my gaze not leaving my laptop screen.

“Don't tell me you don't feel the connection I'm feeling towards her? You should feel it too.” He said and I leaned back into my chair. I did feel the connection but I didn't feel any mate bond yet. “Maybe she's our mate.”

I didn't say a word and just continued with my work which annoyed my wolf who tried forcing himself out but I kept him under control. “Fine, I'll talk. I feel the connection but why should it bother us? She's not our mate so…”

“We haven't met our mate in seven years, Kayden…”

“And I gave up on finding her a long time ago. You did the same so no need to bring it up now that one woman tried finding her way into our lives.” I said to him.

For years now, we've been searching for our mate from pack to pack but to no avail. I couldn't waste my time on that while he could do something else.

“Like what that w***e is trying to do now.” He said, making me look at the door which opened immediately and my eyes landed on the door.

The door was pushed open by Ramona who stepped into the office with a slight smile on her face because I was staring right at her. She was dressed in one of her net dresses and I could almost see her body through it.

“Alpha.” She said, walking towards me with a seductive smile. “You look so stressed. Thank goodness I came just in time.”

Ramona has been the one relieving my sexual tension in the last year and although I felt no single attraction towards her, she was still useful in times like this.

“I've missed you since you left the pack for hers.” She said with a pout as she rubbed my shoulders gently with a small smile I could see from the screen of my laptop.

I don't know why I suddenly felt irritated by the way she was touching me and I shoved her hands away. She looked surprised but she pulled my chair, making me face her as she plopped down on my lap. “What's wrong, Kayden? Don't tell me it's because of that woman. You didn't even spend your wedding night complete with her.”

“And I don't think that concerns you in any manner?” I asked her, pushing her off me.

“Does she feel better than me? Does she satisfy you better than me? So now you're pushing me away because she is here now to warm your bed? Remember she can never be as good as me, Kayden.” She almost snapped which was the last straw.

“It's Alpha for you now.” I corrected her and she looked at me like I just hit her in the face. “Of course, I have a wife now and she's here to do her wifely duties so your work here is done.”

“You can't be serious…”

“Indeed I am. Please leave before I lose my temper.” I said gently which made her angry. She pushed herself away from the position she was standing and headed towards the door.

“You're still mine, Kayden and she can't take you from me. You just wait and see.”
