Irina’s POV

I watch the light slowly dim in his eyes, just as I had watched Damien’s life drain from him. Ketill was still frozen to the spot, he couldn’t do anything about the dagger sticking out of his chest. This time his death was final, there was no coming back from it, I would make sure of it.

The blood trickles out around the dagger and I remembered how Damien had told me not to remove the dagger sticking out of my mom because it would make things worse, the blade had been keeping everything from escaping, stopping her from dying on the spot. I couldn’t have that with Ketill. I could not have him survive my stabbings twice and I rip the blade from him sending a fountain of deep red spraying through the air.

“Irina” he gasps as the blood flows fast, but we all know that once the heart has been touched, there was no coming back from it.
