Emrys walked through the door, sunflowers and yellow roses in hand, and as our daughter hugged his leg, he walked straight towards me with a beaming smile.

“My darling,” He spoke as we embraced each other, his scent never changing from the comforting pine, and I hugged him as tight as possible. He had only been gone a month, which was long enough, but not the longest he had ever been gone either.

“My love,” I responded and I could feel our daughter still hugging his leg, making me chuckle, and pulling away just enough to see his face. I could see the wear and tear battle had done to him.

His eyes are darker now, skin a bit darker too, and his hair now kissed his shoulder blades; he had lost weight but gained more muscles and I could tell he hadn’t much food just by a hug.

“Daddy! Guess what!?” Our beauty spoke, standing up and joining our hug.

Emrys smiled as he looked at her, love flooding out from his eyes and I could tell how much he had missed her. “What?”
