“I’m so sorry,” Sam said, again.

“I know you are, and it won’t happen again,” I raise my eyebrows at him.

“Never, you have my word,” Sam tried to touch me, but I back away.

“Sam, I can’t just fall into your arms and melt like nothing happened. You think what you did is excusable and it’s not. You could have said to me, ‘Rebecca, I can’t break up with her on the phone. I’ll break up with her as soon as she gets back.’ And I would have said, ‘makes sense.’ But under no circumstances should you have talked to her on the phone, under less circumstances should have even listened during phone sex. The sneaking off to talk to her is what hurts. You were calling her while visiting my parents! You did this in my father’s house, and you expect him to forgive you? To just be okay leaving me here in your care? Would you leave your daughter with someone who did what you did? Did you say ‘Ditto’ to her this week?“
