Chapter Fourteen

I did my best not to move in a way that showed just how uncomfortable I was in my own skin when I followed Godwin back down the stairs.  Kenton was sitting in a side chair conversing with one of the vampire army leaders through the open door since he couldn’t enter because neither my mother or I had invited him in.  Kenton scowled when he saw me wince as Godwin playfully patted my backside, but he said nothing.

“So, cousin, it seems your lover has gone missing,” Godwin bellowed as he strode across the polished wooden floor.

“Lover?” Kenton said with confusion.

“Okay, maybe I should have said former lover,” Godwin said with a roll of his eyes.

Kenton gave me a curious look.  “I’m still not following.”

“Maryanne, you idiot.  You’re the one who told Missy she was missing.  What is this?  Out of sight, out of mind?” Godwin clucked his tongue as h
