Chapter Twenty-Two

It took a few more days for my mother to be up and around enough to be able to travel back home with me to speak with Kenton.  By the time we did, six months had passed for him.

Cindy was cleaning up after a solitary dinner when we appeared in the kitchen.  She greeted us with genuine smiles and enthusiastic hugs.

 “Is Kenton out patrolling?” I asked as I looked around for him. “I can’t imagine there would be much need with Michael gone, is there?”

“The Jefferson pack moved away from Wolf Mountain shortly after Michael’s demise,” Cindy said.  “They’ve merged with a pack somewhere in Putnam County, from what I’m told.”

“So, is Kenton tending the horses, then?” I asked as I started for the door.

“You won’t find him there,” Cindy blurted out with urgency. “Please, both of you sit and I’ll tell you.”
