Chapter Twenty

I don’t know if Cindy took a good look at the dead guy or not because I made sure to avert my eyes.  It was important that I not do anything that would jeopardize my staying invisible.  I was already laden with guilt over taking a life, even if it was the life of a vicious, dirty werewolf.  Maybe if my victim was in wolf form, I wouldn’t have been as upset, but, to anyone who didn’t know what he truly was, he looked like a dead human lying in the closet doorway with his head smashed open.

Cindy raced to the attic door and kicked with all of her might.  When the door split into several sections and fell away, she wasted no time rushing up the stairs.  I made sure that I stayed close, but not so close that I’d be taken by surprise should Michael have something up his sleeve that we weren’t prepared for.

I stopped at the top of the stairs and covered my mouth with my hands to force back the gasp that almost escaped it
