When Pascal returned with supper like he promised, he didn't force me to eat. He dropped the food on the same desk he cut Nelly's hands off on, smiling as he told me dinner was ready.

I watched as he picked Nelly up and tied her to a chair. She was unconscious. Having lost that amount of blood, I doubt she would survive the night. I could already tell it would be late by the time Fred released himself.

Pascal squatted in front of her. He touched her cheeks before he got up. I watched as he went over to the only window in the room. Below it was a small box, which I failed to notice because of how black it was. It was almost the same colour as the wall. And even if I saw it, I would have thought I was looking at the extension of the wall, not knowing it was a trunk.

The box was a first aid kit. Smiling, he carried it back to her.
