Just Another Day

"Yes, Lucky, Beck left for work this morning," Cherokee stated as she threw the covers off of herself.

"So, he just left?" Lucky asked as she switched her cell phone to the other ear. "After everything that happened yesterday?"

"Yeah, I mean I'm fine." Cherokee lied as she tossed her silk pink robe Becket had picked out at the boutique earlier that week. "I know that he has work. Besides, I'll get some much-needed time to explore this enormous house."

"You haven't seen the house yet?" Lucky questioned as she pulled up a pair of tight jeans over her hips, struggling as she buttoned them up. "Ugh, I think I'm gaining weight,"

"No, I haven't. His mom came over the day I moved in. She was drunk and sort of kept us up before she passed out on the sofa." Cherokee opened the bedroom door and made her way to the kitchen where the maid was making breakfast. "What do you mean, you're gaining weight? Lucky, you're super skinny!"

"Good morning, Ms. Rains," Mrs. Sands announced as she plopped scrambled eggs on a plate.

"Oh, morning, Ms. Sands," Cherokee said as she took a seat at the glass kitchen table. "Are you coming over today?" She asked her best friend.

"Of course. I'll be there a little later. Love you, bye!" Lucky kissed the phone before hanging up.

"I've got breakfast for you, eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast," Mrs. Sands placed the plate in front of Cherokee before making her way back to the stove. "Is there anything you want for tonight?" She questioned, wiping down the counters.

"Tonight?" Cherokee inquired as she took a bite of bacon.

"Yes, for dinner?" Mrs. Sands turned around, raising her graying eyebrows. There was a hint of attitude but Cherokee wasn't sure.

"Oh, umm... well, what does Becket... I mean Mr. Petersen like to eat?" Cherokee stuttered as she put a forkful of eggs in her mouth.

"Shouldn't you know this? You are his fiance, are you not?" Mrs. Sands quizzed irritatedly as she turned back around to face Cherokee.

"Yes, I am. Did I say something wrong?" Cherokee grilled as she spread butter on her toast.

"Oh, no, no, of course not, Ms. Rains," Mrs. Sands threw down the towel on the counter and walked out of the room. The doorbell rang and Mrs. Sands showed Lucky into the kitchen where Cherokee was putting her dishes into the sink.

"Oh, my Lucky. I thought you were coming later?" Cherokee asked as she made her way, holding out her arms for an embrace.

"Well, I decided to come early. We can explore this castle together!" Lucky took off her shawl as they interlocked arms, heading into the living room. They explored each room and spent a few hours talking.

"So, have you decided on what to eat for tonight?" Mrs. Sands questioned as she entered the room removing rubber gloves from her hands.

"Yes, I would love steak!" Lucky clapped enthusiastically as she scooted herself to the end of the couch.

"You are?" Mrs. Sands inquired as she put her hand on her hip. "I didn't know there would be a third for dinner."

"This is my best friend, Lucky St. Pierre, yeah She'll be with us tonight," Cherokee answered as she interlaced her fingers over her lap.

"So, I guess the guest gets to pick what you all dine on..." Mrs. Sands threw up her hands and began walking out.

"Oh, Mrs. Sands, what time does Beck, I mean Mr. Petersen, get home?" Cherokee quizzed as she tried her best to make her eyes look as empathetic as possible.

"Didn't he tell you?" Mrs. Sands interrogated as she turned back around, putting both hands on her hips. "How did you two get engaged if you don't know what kind of foods he likes or what time he comes home? That's all very basic."

"I... well, I..." Cherokee started, but was cut off.

"Becket proposed to her because they fell in love. He asked her to move in so they could be with each other every day. So that they can know each other in and out, even better than they did before, not so that the help..." Lucky stood up as she motioned her hands in utter disapproval. "Could interrogate her!" Mrs. Sands walked off in a huff and the front door opened.

"Cherry... Lucky I didn't expect to see you there," Becket proclaimed as he put his keys in a bowl next to the door.

"She came to surprise me and keep me company. She's staying for supper. I hope that's okay?" Cherokee asked as she rose from the sofa to greet her fiance.

"Yeah, yeah, that's fine. I came home early because of everything that happened yesterday. I just didn't want to leave you alone all day. I also know how Mrs. Sands can be," Beck uttered as he embraced Cherokee in a hug, leaving a small kiss on her cheek. Cherokee was a bit confused because this was a contract marriage. It stated they would only be together for public appearances. Why would he come home early?

"Yeah, you need to have a talk with that maid of yours. She took an attitude with Cherry and me today," Lucky announced as she stood up from the sofa.

"I'll do that," Becket mentioned as he walked to his bedroom, stripping off his dress dark blue jacket.

"Oh, Mr. Petersen, you're home early," Mrs. Sands interrupted as she bounced into the living room.

"Yes, I am. What's for dinner, Mrs. Sands?" Beck inquired as he began unbuttoning his shirt and laying his coat over his right arm.

"Well, Ms. St. Pierre wanted steak and Ms. Rains agreed. I'm only going by her suggestion." Mrs. Sands announced smugly as she narrowed her eyes in Cherokee and Lucky's direction.

"That's wonderful, I do love a good steak," Beck smiled as he turned to continue to his room.

"I'm surprised you're still here!" Mrs. Sands recited under her breath as she scurried away to the kitchen to start on the meal.
