Chapter Forty-eight

Hayden

Taking a quick shower, I checked in Raine’s room to see if she was ready. But, she was already in the kitchen and walked towards me with a steaming mug of coffee.

Seeing me, she gave a forced smile and greeted me, “Good morning, Hayden. Here’s your coffee.”

I gave her a small smile and took the coffee cup as I sat on the couch. She sat beside me and sipped the coffee. My mind was blank and I was simply circling the cup without even tasting it.

It was later that I noticed that she was unnaturally quiet too.

I believed it was because of the trial and Madeleine being labeled as a thief. 

“Are you okay?” I asked my sister and she nodded her head. 

“You didn’t even taste the coffee. Have it or we will be late.”

I nod my head again and emptied the cup in one go. She only stared at me as I wiped my face with the back of my hand and placed the cup back
