It's been a week since Drake and I had that argument, and I'm still trying to process the hurtful things he said.

Why do I feel so sad when this is what I wanted all along?

This conflicting emotion is overwhelming.

"Zelda," my mother's voice interrupted my thoughts.

I turned to her, unsure of how to respond. "You were lost in thought. Are you okay?" she asked, her concern evident on her face.

"I'm just thinking about some things, that's all," I replied with a faint smile.

"Are you sure? You know you can always talk to me about anything," she said, her worry evident.

"I know, Mom, and you know I'll tell you if something's wrong," I reassured her with a smile.

"Okay dear, I was checking," my mother answered as she took my hands in hers, "he doesn't deserve you, and you will find someone far better than that coward."

She thought I was thinking about Jake. Why would I be bothered about a jerk like Jake?

"I know, Mom," I said to my mother and she returned my smile.
