Zara's POV

My heart drummed fiercely when his sturdy, icy fingers played with my waist, holding me intact on his lap.

“You have never been so good to cook all this for serving me. I am sure something is off.” He said, squinting his eyes at me.

His lips etched on a dark smirk as he taunted me, “A wife who is absent on her wedding night means she despises her husband a lot. I am sure you have poisoned all this good food!”

What?! I was genuinely grateful and this was what he would think about all of this?!

I felt the bad urge to roll my eyes but I held back. Whatever I had done for him was in good faith because he helped me when nobody could have helped me.

His suspicion changed into shock when he saw a wide smile marking my lips.

“You are my husband, Xander. Why would I poison your food?” I said sweetly before detaching my gaze from him to the contents on the table.
