Lorie povAsher had refused to let me work for Henry and I couldn't understand why. The day had been going very slow as we went from one boring meeting to another. Thankfully it was near closing time. I arranged my bag in preparation to visit the hospital. I haven't seen them since my return from the business trip in Dubai.I walked to Jasmine’s office to chat away time. She was sitting on her chair checking her nails. ‘hey Jas.’ I greeted making myself comfortable on her desk.‘hi babes.’ She replied, dropping her nails. ‘You visited the nail salon.’ My eyes went to her newly polished nails painted in pink and white. It looked cute. Jasmine style.‘I don't like the nails. I wanted a darker shade of pink.’ She murmured, still eyeing her finger nails.‘but this looks dark enough to me though.’dark?! This looks like pastel pink.’ She shrieked. ‘oh really?’ I am not a color freak like Jasmine. She loves the color pink. ‘how can you be so color blind?’ she groaned, grabbing her hair.
Garrett was dressed when I got home. Seems like he has been waiting for me. His eyes were looking angry. Garrett was not the type to wait. Cautiously I locked the door behind me. ‘where the hell have you been?’ He thundered.‘I went to the hospital.’ I replied quietly.‘I vividly recall telling you to come home early today. You don't just listen.’ He was pacing around with his hands on his waist.‘I'm sorry.’ I mumbled not wanting to offend him any further.‘You screened my call. You fucking screened my call. Where were you when you couldn't pick up your phone? Were you fucking him? Aren't I enough for you?’ He was coming closer to me, making me shift away. Soon I was resting my back on the door and his hands went up to the door caging me in. I shivered because of the cold. Wearing rain soaked clothes does that to you.‘I'm sorry I didn't hear my phone ring.’ I reached for my bag searching for my phone. I tapped the screen. It came on. The time was 8:10, and I had a missed call from
The rain had started again. It was always raining. I stared blankly through glass walls. I don't hate the rain and I don’t like it either. I only hate the sogginess and cold it leaves behind. The day started as any other normal work day. My co-workers do what they do best; gossiping yet pretending to work when their supervisors glance at their way or pass by. I was getting bored. I had finished the paper work on my desk faster than I expected and it seems my boss had been avoiding me since our heated exchange in his office for reasons best known to him. He didn't send for me nor did he ask me to search for any files nor attend any meetings with him. He had asked for two days to come up with another solution that doesn't involve me working for his enemy. He barely came out of his office. In fact he comes before everyone and leaves after everyone. Or maybe he sleeps in the office, who knows? His blinds were always closed.I walked to the kitchen to find snacks to nibble on and coffee
He stared at the screen before finally accepting the call.‘what do you want?’ His voice was so cold.‘pleasant day to you too.’ I could hear him. The phone was loud.Asher didn't say anything but his hands had balled into fists. His last meeting with Henry hadn't ended well. ‘I wanted to ask if you have considered my offer.’ He said.‘I thought I made my thoughts about your offer clear the other day.’‘You know, you don't have a choice.’ I could imagine his face right now. He must be smirking. ‘who says I don't?’ I stared at Asher. Does he have a plan?‘oh, I can save you the stress and go to the tax office tomorrow.’‘I will get back to you.’ He hung up.‘do you have a plan?’ I asked when he said nothing. ‘no, I don't. But I won’t let Henry know that.’I stared at his face, searching for the reassurance that he knew what he was doing. He slowly let go of my waist, his eyes not meeting mine.‘get back to work. Those files are on my desk, no, not the one you just brought. The ones
I could barely control the rate at which my heart was beating. It was pounding fast and hard against my chest. I had suggested this, why the hell was I feeling this way? I walked towards the visitor and sat down hoping he didn't notice. Thankfully he didn't because his back was still facing me.‘I have thought long and hard about this. You are right. It's the only option. But if it will make you feel better I feel horrible for making you do this.’ He turned facing me but could barely look me in the face.‘okay. I will do my best.’ I replied.‘no don't do your best. Be lazy. Do everything in your power to ensure he kicks you out. We will be more than willing to take you back.’ His voice rose.I smiled. Somehow those words made my heart calm a little.‘Yes sir.’ I nodded shyly.‘You have this week to pack. I really hate sending you there.’ His eyes were looking at me in a very strange manner. ‘I will be okay. I may not look like it but I am one tough girl.’ I said hoping to assure him
We got to Jasmine’s apartment. It was small compared to Garrett’s house but it was cozy. The living room had a couch that was facing the television. I dropped my bag on the table in the dining room and sat on one of the chairs.‘This is going to be a very long and fun night. Trust me.’ She said clasping my arm, pulling me up and leading us to her room.I groaned.I didn't trust Jasmine. I just want to watch a movie and relax. But I will leave the office soon so I will let her have way only tonight.‘let's start with our hair.’ She pushed me down the chair in front of the dressing table. She braided my wooly hair into pretty cornrows. I'm not gonna lie, Jasmine was good at this. I took the straightener and straightened her hair. When we were done, she insisted on fixing our nails. ‘didn't you fix your nails earlier this week?’ I asked her, remembering how she had called me color blind that day.‘I told ya I didn't like it So, I took it off.’ She said, giving me a smile.I went for a d
Asher frowned and knocked again but the man was adamant. He did not reply.‘Can you help me here?’ Asher turned to me. I never knew he would ask for my help. Pushing past him eagerly, I walked to the door. ‘Sir, please can you open it? We just want to talk.’ We waited for a few seconds before the door opened with a creak.‘come in if you want.’ Old John grumbled. We both entered the house. The house was small and with Asher in it, it looked even smaller. There was a picture of a goofy young man and a very pretty lady hanging on the wall. Flowers were placed on the table and by the television stand.Old John gave Asher an angry look. ‘what do you want?’ He asked not to offer us a seat. So we stood awkwardly close to the door. ‘good evening sir, I know you don't want us here. I am Asher Hardin and this is my secretary Lorie Amaris.’‘Oh miss, pardon my rudeness, take your seat please.’ Old John invited me, taking me by my arm to the living room. I smiled following him.Still stand
My last day at Hardin's group started like every other day. People chatting away while getting coffee hoping to start their day with vigor. I felt almost tearful. I had grown to love the place.Last night when I got back from our trip, I messaged Henry to let him know when I would resume work. He promised to pay double of what I received from Asher. It wouldn't hurt to earn more, would it?He sent some regulations and rules that his secretary is expected to follow. I was to follow him on trips and record what goes on in the company. It wasn't so hard I guess. Hopefully he would leave Asher alone.Early that morning, Mr Lee Yang was summoned by Asher. When he came out, his face was void of emotions. He walked towards my desk.‘why are you leaving?’ He asked. Guess my boss didn't tell him the reason.‘he offered to pay better.’ I grinned.‘not that, why did you offer to work with the enemy and save the ass of this company?’ He asked again.I swallowed. Too many people will be affected
