The King's Land

NIXON'S POV

The howl. It was calling us like we were subject to his obedience. My pack was bewildered, and so was I. The desperation penetrated our souls, and we ended up shifting, howling to empathize.

"Alpha, where is that howl coming from?" Rendel came abruptly to my house. He was still naked from shifting, and so was I. We all felt entitled to join that cry.

"I don't know. Rally our men and find out who made the wolf cry."

"Yes, Alpha," Rendel obliged and left with the rest of the hunters in our pack. I immediately phoned Dad and told him about the howl.

He was skeptical about it and wanted to find the werewolf who made the sound before he conferred the matter to the King. Dad doesn't want to do that as much as possible. Unsolved issues mean incompetence or negligence.

"When did it happen, son?"

"Right now, just before I call. Dad, that howl was frightful. We are being compelled. I don't feel that way, not even to the King."
